Looking for local support (South Carolina)

I was wondering if there was anyone on here from the coast of South Carolina? My two year old daughter was diagnosed with AA back in June and I'm just looking for some support locally.

Steroid injections?

My daughter was diagnosed with AA in early June 2010. It all began with a dime sized bald spot that gradually got larger and then more spots began to pop up. Within the past week a rather large spot has developed on the very top of her head. It is about 3 inches long and an inch wide. We saw the dermatologist this past week and he said he did see some regrowth in one of the first spots she developed. He knows how anxious I am over this whole Alopecia thing so he made mention of steroid shots in… Continue

Hi Dana

Thanks for your friend request, and for the comments about my blogs helping your daughter. I can't imagine what it must be like for you dealing with this, and how a child deals with it. I really hope that it's just a short-term blip. Try to stay positive, no matter how impossible that feels at times. There is hope!

Take care
Robert

Absolutely--I understand what you are saying. And you know, 18 mo to 3 yrs is a hard time anyway, let alone also having this extra stress, I just found it so difficult. When we were first going through finding out about AA, I didn't believe the diagnosis because she was also underweight and anemic. So she had tons of testing done. We finally got hooked up w/ a hair specialist who was finally able to tell us that she has seen other small children w/ AA, so that was a relief--to know it was just AA. Our ped had her even tested for cystic fibrosis!!

It is a process, but I love this site for myself, but also for connecting w/ other moms and little girls that Gracie will lean on for support one day herself. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful by the way, I love love the chubby little cheeks!! :)

Dana, welcome to AW. For me, the ache did finally go away, but it is still an everyday thought. Connecting w/ moms on this site was by far and away the best thing for me in coming to terms w/ her AA. Gracie was 13 mo when her hair started falling out, and it is a very hard thing to handle--especially in the times when her hair has looked its worst (she has AA in patches and it comes and goes). Let me know if you ever want to chat--I bet our kiddos are about the same age? Gracie just turned 2 1/2. Angie

Welcome to Alopecia World. My daughter was diagnosed with Alopecia when she was 14 years old. She is now 23 years old. We didn't know about this site until a couple years ago. .For my daughter and I , it was comforting knowing there are other people with alopecia who are going through similar circumstances. My daughter is an intelligent, beautiful, well adjusted adult. Your daughter looks beautiful and very happy too. I hope this site will be as helpful as it was/is to us.
