Treatments for eyebrows and eyelashes so far... new nutrition findings.

Posted on June 13, 2009 at 2:30pm 5 Comments

It has been quite a number of weeks since the last post and Ithought I would update my progress for those following this thread.

Well I discontinued the Lumigan for my eyelashes. The Dr. said to keep trying it, but I felt there was absolutely no change in the area at all. No fuzzies or anything so I elected to stop treatment.

On the happy side, my eyebrows have come in about 90% and they are thick and dark like I used to have before the Universalis kicked in. The Kenalog… Continue

Update on treatments so far..

Posted on May 11, 2009 at 2:09pm 2 Comments

My friend Brittney asked how I was doing so I thought I'd share my progress to date. Well the injections of the Kenalog Cortisone seem to be wroking nicely. I have a full brow line on the left side and a bit more blotchy brow coming in on the right.

I'd say it will be a success in about another month to 6 weeks. The hairs coming in are thick and dark just like my pre- fall out hairs were. I am feeling much more confident about my overall look and would be very grateful if I could… Continue

Follow Up with Dr. Lovely Mc Needles

Posted on April 14, 2009 at 4:18pm 3 Comments

I saw my lovely Dermatologist today and she shot up my eyebrows with the Kenalog injections. She said to pick an area on each brow and add the Lumigan to see if it helps in filling out the area between appointents- "it can't hurt" -as the Lumigan is really a serendipitous (is that a word?) use of the Lumigan product anyway..

So lots of "ouchies" today- I must say I would rather be hammer fisted once in the groin as a consolation to the multiple ouchies, but I can't be a wuss! If it… Continue

Update- back from the specialist

Posted on April 13, 2009 at 11:37pm 6 Comments

Well I finally had the appointment with the Good Doctors at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto- it is a teaching hospital and part of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine.

I met with the Dermatology spcialists- a great Intern and Dr. Yeung. Basically they run a clinic for patients with Alopecia and use DPHP I think it's called..a chemical compound used to trigger hair regrowth in AA, AT and some AU patients.

In my case, I had too many negative factors to be a good… Continue

Scarring Alopecia- May be starting a new treatment soon!

Posted on February 8, 2009 at 11:00pm 5 Comments

I had alopecia Areata for the last 5 years which progressively got worse. I was receiving shots and topical treatments for the whole time- with mixed to no results.

In October of 2008 I had a bad run of hair loss that got so bad my hair started shedding from all over my scalp and not just the typical areas where I had the AA.

I had a follow up appointment with my Dr. and when I went in she told me that I had a run of LPP or Lichen Plano Pilaris- a form of scarring… Continue

Hey Craig!

I've enjoyed reading your updates as I've been considering having injections in my eyebrows/eyelids to regrow the hair in those areas. Has the hair grown back completely or was it patchy?

I stopped everything as far as treatments...as I became very ill after my cortione injections. Also many other medications caused me illness.
Allergies, Sensitivities to medications is always going to be an issue with me.
However...even though I had seen the doctor in the past...they never offer any new ideas or treatments.
Guess you have to ask!

Hey Craig. I think you told me you were using the Lumigen or Latisse. I just wanted to check in with you to see how it's going. Are you noticing any re-growth? I'm starting the Latisse tonight, I hope I have some luck with it.

Hi Craig,

Hope you had a nice weekend!

Interesting about the complications of mono! No I have never had it. And never had EBV either (although I have read like 90% of the population has by they time they reach 30 or been exposed to it)- I've been very fortunate thus far- I can probably count on one hand how many times I've ever been sick... as far as virus's/flu/colds...I don't seem to get those. knock on wood! I have wondered if having an amped up immune system from AA is the reason. Other than when you had Mono- have you found the same to be true?

But to answer your question...Yes I do think infections or virus's can cause autoimmune diseases....so I think it is not that much of a stretch to believe mono or EBV can cause AA in some folks! I don't know that could ever be proved- or any one trigger could for that matter. Basically I think it is different for all of us and think there are many different triggers- (stress, diet, environment, genes etc.)

Hey Craig!!
Ya.. I have heard about the shots... I might talk to my Doctor about it next visit.. it probably would be easier to be consistent with it.. I forget to take them alllll the time!!! I just dont know about giving myself a needle once a week hahaha but I guess you would get used to that!
Hope you had a good weekend, and thanks for the comment!
