"I have ophiasis and no rash, but I would imagine one could get a rash with any kind of alopecia ?? And one can have a combination of types of alopecia.  "

Alopecia Areata vs Scarring Alopecia

My GP diagnosed me with alopecia ophiasis at the end of January (just by doing a visual inspection) and so far all my hair loss is below my ears at the back in one huge area but it's been so itchy and also red and rashy for almost two months now that I'm wondering if it could be scarring alopecia instead? I'm seeing a dermatologist next week (finally!) but I'm going absolutely mad with the constant burning and itching. With ophiasis can you get rashy as well or does this sound like something…See More

"The page on severe hair loss on the Monat website conflates male pattern baldness with alopecia but androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata have different causes requiring different treatments. "

"Thanks for laying out the differences here. I think it's potentially dangerous for someone to, in a knee-jerk defense of their own pet theories, suggest someone doesn't have life-threatening allergies or asthma..I would hate for some…"

"Hello, My hair loss seems to have stopped. My scalp didn't hurt when my hair was falling out but now it does. I'm hoping this is a sign of regrowth. Has anyone experienced a sore scalp before new growth?"

Camryn replied to Matt1216's discussion Finding the root cause of alopecia
"We can discuss our theories but to insist on them without sensible backup, as is Matt's penchant here and on another thread where he repeatedly tried to tell me I didn't have allergies, is quite a different thing. Thanks for the reality…"

Camryn replied to Matt1216's discussion Finding the root cause of alopecia
"It's my understanding that most people with alopecia are otherwise healthy with a much smaller percentage suffering from other autoimmune conditions too. It could well be that there isn't one cause for alopecia."
