I wouldn't say I'm out of the woods yet but my big bald spot has been noticeably filling in, maybe due to my nightly clobex use and periodic kenalog shots (or maybe it would've happened anyway - who…Continue

I had my first appointment with the dermatologist today. He confirmed my GP's diagnosis of alopecia areata and told me these are difficult cases. Then he gave me kenalog shots to the affected area…Continue

Alopecia Areata vs Scarring Alopecia

Started this discussion. Last reply by Lexi Mar 29. 3 Replies

My GP diagnosed me with alopecia ophiasis at the end of January (just by doing a visual inspection) and so far all my hair loss is below my ears at the back in one huge area but it's been so itchy…Continue

"Derms have been using kenalog shots and clobex for AA for 20 years that I know of. Kinda the first option, if one is desired, to (hopefully) regrow hair. One round worked for me back then, and I regrew my hair - and kept it almost 17 years."

"Seriously, I know! Even my GP was very negative when I first showed her the spot which was a blow. Every case is so individual that anything is possible but a lot of people do have success with various methods, or even see the hair regrow on its own."

"Katie, that white regrowth is a good sign. That's how mine first started coming back too - white peach fuzz. Now some of that white is pretty darn long and plenty of brown has filled in around it also."

"Hi Katie, when I discovered my hair loss it really threw me for a loop too - so upsetting. Don't beat yourself up about feeling emotionally affected by it. That's completely natural. Are you losing your hair in patches or in one spot? I…"

Once Again, the infernal itch

I wouldn't say I'm out of the woods yet but my big bald spot has been noticeably filling in, maybe due to my nightly clobex use and periodic kenalog shots (or maybe it would've happened anyway - who really knows?). The thing is, my scalp is still pretty itchy, even in parts where I've never lost any hair. The dermatologist says it's part of the autoimmune reaction which is worrying because if I'm still itching does that mean I could start losing hair again at any moment? If or when the…See More
