About Me:
I'm trying to live happily with alopecia...I do wear wigs but my goal is to be able to go without and not worry about what others will think or say; however, I have other goals to reach before I can get to that point. I first developed AA in 1989 at 21 years of age and dealt with it on and off until 1992 when it was so bad I had to resort to wigs. After many torturous steroid injections my hair grew back enough to where I was able to cover any spots I might've still had and lose the wigs all together. Fast forward to 1998 when it started all over again. I've been in wigs ever since with no hope of ever having my hair back. My husband and I ride a motorcycle and it's my dream one day to not care what anyone says about a bald head underneath the helmet.
I've been married to my husband since 2002 and he's never minded the fact that I was blessed with so much scalp (ha!), he's been really great actually, always encouraging me to go bald and be proud.
I have lived in Nashville since 1989 but was born and raised in Maryville, TN at the foothills of the Smokey Mountains (aka) God's Country!

Breakthru moment...

I just wanted to let ya know that the last few times the hubby and I went riding on the motorcycle, I only wore a bandana/scarf under the helmet instead of some type of hair. I did wear some type of t-shirt that referenced the "baldness". I've worn my Bald is Beautiful shirt, my Bald Hottie shirt (while my husband wore his I'm with the Bald Hottie shirt) and then I also wore my Alopecia Areata~Look it Up shirt. SO, I know I will get to the point that I can go hair-less withouth having to wear a shirt related to the baldness; but for right now, it helps me with my comfort zone.

Also, I've been walking outdoors and I only wear bandanas then, sometimes with or without a hat. It's so much cooler that way.

I CAN beat this!

I had an interesting, yet not surprising, thing happen to me while out for a fun night a couple of weeks ago. My husband and I had gone out to listen to a live band and have a few drinks and enjoy a cool breeze on the lake. I went with my bandana under a baseball hat combo and was really enjoying the music and night out. Getting alot easier

I've been feeling a lot more comfortable going out and about in my bandanas/scarves. I have not yet went completely uncovered (that's the next step) but what I have done is a major thing and I don't feel as self conscious as I used to. I do get all kinds of looks, but that's to be expected. Thanks for the note . I feel so low right now due to my hair loss. Just when I think it has to stop... i keep on shedding. I wish I knew which way to turn for wigs and hair options . So many to choose from all claiming to be the best. I think coming on this site has helped my spirits some.

Thanks for the email/comment Angie. I am new to this site and didn't see it till tonight. It was in comments and not inbox. Go figure. Thanks for your heart-felt words. I am really going through a hard time right now because of my hair loss. It has been gradual and pretty steady for a few years. It has gotten to the point that I never wear it down in public because it's so thin and frizzy looking. I've been looking into wigs for months, but since they are so expensive, I need to make the right choice the 1st time. Any advice you can give would really help me a lot. I would rather not shave all my hair off yet for a proper wig fit (as with some) but will if need be. Again. thanks for your comment & I look forward to getting to know you better.
