- I am 24 years old. I have Alopecia Areata. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago. Thankfully, injections do work for me when I have "episodes," as I prefer to call them. I have a degree in massage therapy and am in college again, this time going for respiratory therapy.

Yet another "episode"

i haven't had an "episode" (as i call them) in about 2 years maybe, but a few months ago i started noticing a patch again. tried "waiting it out" to see if maybe it might start growing back on it's own, and also because i dont have insurance because i'm a full time student and my job works me just below the amount of hours needed for them to offer me insurance. nice, right?? so finally i found a new dermatologist to help me, as my previous doctor had retired, and went in to start another batch… Continue

Too bad I started it so late in life. lol I see we like the same music too. I love SYL & In Flames seen both of them a few times. Yes, I know I'm probably to old to be listening to them too! I know it's super helpful to have a support system to just be "there" with you. But you seem like someone who can hang with the best of them, so I'm sure you'll be great. - Yikes, I hated going in for the scalp injections too. The shots themselves didn't bug me too much, but the stress and fretting over going in, wondering if things got better or worse, etc., was just too much. I did 3 treatments, and though I'm grateful for my derm for giving them to me, I had to just stop it all and let nature run its course. Hope your visit goes well...take care!

- I had two Thanksgiving dinner too!! Except mine were a product of being married and going to the in-laws. Nonetheless, total food-carnage...hehehheheee. It was a wide array of fave foods and none were spared. Amazingly enough though, I made it through the Holiday weekend without having gained a pound (gained a little, then worked it off). Wooo hooo!!!! How's the hair "episode" going?

I've been an RT for 25 years and have really enjoyed it quite alot.
Over the past few years, like most medical professions...Respiratory Care has become pretty saturated with new grads. Who knows how many people will come and go but there arent many job opportunites available at the moment. You might want to consider other options in healthcare like nursing or radiology maybe Physical Therapy. i dont mean to donw play Respiratory Therapy but something to consider.
