Whirlwind week of highs and lows, wins and losses

So, where could I possibly start?

Having never been to a naturopath before, I took the advice of a friend and sought out a very well known one in my area. In the month I waited for my appointment, anyone I mentioned it to seemed to have heard of him and his silky skills. I got more and more excited as the appointment approached, which coincided with repeated trips back to my hopeless GP as we went through the process of blood tests and him delivering results in a monotone, emotionless…

Do you believe in signs?

Do you believe in signs?

For well over a year now I've been seeing feathers in my path. Mainly at the park when I'm walking my beautiful Weimaraner dogs, but also in other places that are more random, like in the city on my path to work.

Anyway, so that's the feathers. Then, shortly after my diagnosis with AA, I was op shopping and found a stack of Barbie and Brats dolls. They were so cheap that I grabbed all the ones that didn't have missing limbs for my nieces and action man…

Warmest Christmas greetings to you from Perth, Western Australia

Posted on December 26, 2014 at 5:09am 1 Comment

Merry Xmas to you all! How did everyone survive the last two days? I had a beautiful day yesterday with both my family and my partners at our house. We blew tradition to the wind and had tapas lunch instead of the traditional food. Swimming and pool volleyball with the wee folk (until the dogs popped the ball - lol) and a few too many champagnes for the hostess! Today though, I'm exhausted and have ignored the world. It's been all about crochet and tv for me all day. You?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa spots galore

Posted on December 18, 2014 at 6:30pm 3 Comments

I was so will-powered up at the work xmas party yesterday. I ignored the cheese platters and chocolate, strudel and cheesecake. I ignored the bread, bread sticks, dips and feta salad. There was still plenty of GF options and dairy-free things for me to eat and I was full to bursting.

Came home and bought the family pizza while I happily ate a mango and a peach.

Then as I'm watching TV I discover several new spots, all at the back of my head. I've been doing (nearly) everything…

Aly,

I'm so glad you were able to find it! Right now I am working on learning how to podcast as a way to reach more people. Women like you are the reason. What good is a survival guide for bald women if they don't know it is there? You feedback is kind and very appreciated.

I was so excited to know that a bald woman in China has read and loved the book. Another woman in Japan takes the train every week to a remote village in Japan where there is a group of bald women who don't speak English. She asked my permission to translate a chapter a week into Japanese for them - not to sell the book in Japanese, but just to help this small group of women. I was so honored.

We are a sisterhood, we women struggling with hair loss in our hair infatuated society. It doesn't matter where we live or who we are, we all have issues with female hair loss. Whatever we can do to help each other and the people in our lives is a privilege.

Thank you so much, Aly. What a lovely end to this day.

Aly, I opted out of dermatologists and naturopaths. With every hair on my body gone in two months there wasn't much point.Painful shots and special diets weren't worth the time and money. When I had alopecia areata in my younger years, the spots grew back in on their own when they decided to. One woman who shared her story in Boldly Bald Women said she wished she'd put all the money she spent on bogus treatments and head coverings into a travel fund and used it to take a dream vacation.

I'm with her. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. : - )

Hey there Aly,

I checked with my editor - it should be available in Australia - at least the ebook.

As for Christmas - I caught a virus and spent the day croaking out words and drinking tea, huddled under blankets, watching 4 seasons of Game of Thrones between naps. Today is better and I"m back at work.

Do you have a Kindle? The ebook is supposed to be available in Australia. If you can download ebooks and can't find it online, please let me know at psfitros@att.net and I'll get in touch with my publisher to find out what the problem is.

I loved the movie...I just am not ready for it all to end. Pippin was doing a teaser for a comedy program called Saturday Night Live in the States. The man talking to him was going on and on about the Hobbit movies and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Finally Pippin turned to him and said: "All the movies are done now, and I don't want to talk about them. I'm trying break the...hobbit (habit). Maybe you had to be there, but it sure was cute!

I see you are all things Hobbit! Did you see the last movie that came out? It's hard to believe it's all over now. Just like with the books, I wanted the movies to continue with the stories...what happened to everybody after everything was over...what happened to everyone who went west?  Still, now we can go back and visit from beginning to end...a whole other world.

I know how hard it can be! Sometimes I think it's better to have no hair at all, like I do.

Welcome to Alopecia World! Okay, I'm all things Hobbit - I had a Siamese cat named Breegalad (remember Quick Beam - the hasty Ent?) What is your cat's name?
