Russian Hair
I've been pretty happy with the custom wigs that I buy from russianhair.net. I'm on my 4th one in almost two years. They average 4-6 months lifespan. I have them colored and cut by my hairdresser. Here are some examples!

- I've always had thin, fine hair. I used to be called, "Qtip" in high school because I had just enough to cover my head. It never really bother me much because I had so many wonderful friends who loved my Qtip head.
I've been thinning the last 5 years without really understanding what was going on. After tons of hormone checks, blood tests, etc. I have just diagnosed with Alopecia areata. It took awhile to diagnose because I've been wearing Prohair extensions so my hair didn't look as splotchy and patchy as I really am.
The interesting thing is that my mother has Alopecia totalis. However, she has lived with her condition in isolation, fear and much pain. My heart goes out to her in the deepest compassion. Alopecia has been paralyzing to her in some ways. I've decided to make this MY experience by reaching out, being honest and open. I hope to find healing within community and turn this into a rich, meaningful experience for becoming a more deeply compassionate human being. But it's still hard. Really, really hard.
So, that's my story. Thanks for establishing a community. I look forward to being a valuable member. :)

Polyana Positive gets Punched!

This stuff sucks. There, I said it. That's how I feel today.
My whole life I've been a self-proclaimed Polyana Positive. I'm pretty much CHOOSE to put positive spin on everything. It's my nature but it's also a choice. This ability has carried me through many challenges growing up. You know, really hard stuff that takes years of counseling to clear up. And I still look on the bright side. I am a mentally and emotionally healthy, stable, strong person. I've done lots of healing work… Continue

I just read Sue Helaine's blog post, "To Biopsy or not" and was so inspired. Thought I would share my own story because through sharing and story we heal.

Consultation Nightmare

First, I am so thankful that I have been connected with Alopecia World. I have so much background information and insights that today, which could have been a little disheartening, turned out to be Just Another Day.
