Hello everybody, I've read and re-read the posts here, but this my first actual post.

A couple months ago I decided it would be worth it to take the money out of savings and order a Freedom wig. One of the things that finally forced the decision was that my family booked a trip to Disney world and I knew I wouldn't even have fun if I had to spend the whole trip worrying about what I could and couldn't do.

Anyway, about 7 weeks after I placed the order, my consultant told me they don't have my hair available. She said there was no way to know when it would come in and that was the most frustrating thing about Freedom.

That was 2 weeks ago, and I'm still waiting. It sounds like I could be waiting for a really long time if I have to just sit around waiting for someone to grow their hair and decide to donate it. It takes a long time for hair to grow!

I am SO SO very disappointed that I could cry. I was so looking forward to looking like myself and feeling pretty again.

I guess I will probably have to sit out all the fun rides at Disney and won't be able to go swimming there, or anywhere else this summer.

Should I go ahead and invest a few MORE hundred dollars in a regular wig while I wait?? The one I have is pretty old and scraggly. I don't know if it will last for another six months, or year, or however long it will take.

Anyway, mostly I wanted to write about my sadness - but I'm curious how other people have dealt with having to wait indefinitely for their Freedom hair.

I am sorry you aren't able to get your freedom in time for your trip. I would invest in a new wig in the interim. Another option I to try Hip Hats with Hair. I use one of there pieces for swimming and biking and things I don't want to do in my freedom. Try Loris wig site, she has some pretty, reasonable hair pieces. I have bought her stuff for years.

The same thing happened to me. I too was very upset. I just finally got my piece after 8 months..... Still upset about that. They didn't tell me about the shortage till after my first payment, etc. I ended up getting a wigpro human hair wig and a synthetic wig. I am getting my freedom cut next week and will start to wear it then. It upsets me that Freedom reps are on here saying how great they are, but it seems they all have shortages of hair and you can't get the actual wig for months.

goodluck, message me if you want to talk

katie

Yes, Katie, that's exactly it ... seven weeks after I paid them over two thousand dollars, I'm told they have no idea when they can even begin my order!!

I guess the thing that bothers me is the not knowing. The hair could be ready in a month (I guess), in which it could still be ready for my trip (which is the whole reason I ordered it!!!) or it could take over a year. Eighteen months? Two years? Who knows?

I can't stand that.

Does anyone have any idea how long delays take (in general)? Or is there really no earthly way of knowing?

Jenny

Hello Ladies

I'd like to address this with everyone that has felt this disappointment.  When you order a Freedom Wig, one of the biggest things everyone needs to understand is the hair that is used in them, is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair and that means to the end user (you and me), that it has all the limitations and variations that the human population of the world has.  It is not easy to source and can have delays in certain colours and lengths.  If your length is 10 inches or longer you may have delays.  I realise that this is upsetting, but it is also the truth.  All Independent Agents say this to clients as and when they order and I know that it would have been passed on to everyone in this thread.

To make a Freedom Wig, many ponytails are needed, as you know you would have picked your length, colour and curl preference.  So, depending on the length you choose it could take up to 10-15 people's ponytails to make your one hair piece.  Also, depending on colour, if it is light brown or blonde, there is an even worse issue....Freedom does not use any type of coloured hair! Just as a question how many people do you personally know with blonde or light brown hair that doesn't colour it and would like to cut it off to donate/sell.  There would be very few.  I have to say that Freedom has and continues to work to get the hair that people desire.  It's never easy but in most cases it is so worth the effort and the wait.

I need to also explain Freedom's lengths a 10 inch Freedom hairpiece looks like long hair.  I will put a piccie here of my daughter in her 10 inch piece.  Most other wig manufacturers are talking a different language and I have noticed that some that say their wigs are 16 inches long look like a Freedom 12 inch....different measuring techniques possibly?????

I don't believe there is any other wig manufacturer that actually uses unprocessed virgin human hair and is focussed on helping the alopecia community solely.  It is a rarity and an absolutely beautiful choice, but as you see it does have some issues that are frustrating an upsetting.  When you talk with you IA, see what alternatives are available.  Often if you change the colour or the length there can be more to work with.

Just to let everyone know.  The people that donate and sell their hair to Freedom are often beautiful young woman that are trying to help other beautiful young woman (You).  There is not an never ending source of this hair and if extremely long hair is your want I'm afraid there can be delays....there are no people farms.  The hair used is grown by human beings who often donate their hair to foundations like the 'Rapunzel Foundation' then that foundation sells the hair to Freedom, with all monies going back to help those with alopecia. It's a wonderful helpful circle of care.

I understand how upset you will be feeling, but talk to your IA as I'm sure you have a great relationship with her.  Don't get upset and angry...this isn't being done to personally hurt you, if anything the opposite is happening with everyone involved around the world working very hard to make this happen for you.

If you need to talk or message me feel free to do so.

This is my daughters 10 inch freedom hairpiece totally uncut.

This is my daughter's latest hairpiece ....this hair is available, talk with your IA as it is 16 inches long and I think fabby.

Hope this helps you understand this situation.

Rosy

Hi Rosy, thanks for the post and the lovely photos.
I really do know that no one is scamming me, and my consultant is as kind as can be, but it's just so upsetting. I was literally counting the weeks til I would be pretty again, and after seven weeks of counting, it was a terrible jolt to say that it wasn't happening anytime soon, and that no one knows when it will happen.

And like I said, I'm terribly upset about this trip. We'd been hoping to go to DW for years now, and some unusual circumstance allowed us to be able to go ... and I feel like I'm going to spend half the vacation either sitting things out or being worried and panicked.

But i guess that would be another thread topic.

Anyway, i asked this before, and I guess there is maybe no answer, but:
What kind of delays are we talking about?? A month or two? Six months? A year? Two years? longer than that???

I think I would feel better is I knew some ballpark. Katie said above that it took her eight months to get hers. Is that typical? do some people actually sit around waiting for over a year??
Just one more thing I wanted to add.

Rosy is absolutely right: My consultant did say quite clearly that there could be delays.

But I guess in my mind I was picturing a "delay" to be like when I recently mail ordered some shoes and they emailed me to tell me there were out of stock and it would take three extra weeks.

Now it's sinking in that I have to wait for many people to grow and decide to donate their hair, and that sounds like a whole different ballgame, and I'm panicking!

Jenny

Hi Jenny

I very much understand your disappointment.  Over the years of getting Freedom Wigs for my own daughter I have fully come to understand that there can be delays.  Sometimes this maybe only weeks, depending on the length, colour and curl preference, this can be longer....I'm sorry there are no absolutes with this process.  All I can say is that I have never been disappointed with the results.

I have talked to your IA and passed on some piccies and choices which may be helpful.  Give her a ring she so wants to help with this.

Hang in there....I know that expectations will be running high, but understand this is a very good wig, but it is not perfect.  Breath and know Freedom understands and knows the upset this is causing you.  If there was more that we could do we would be doing it. :)

Hugs for you.

Rosy

Okay, I got my freedom wig finally and got it cut...and I do not love it. I've been wearing synthetic lace front and human hair wigs. They don't last very long but my synthetic cost me $250 and I've had it 4 months. I got my freedom, and there is soooo much hair on it. My hair stylist took alot of the density out of it and layered it nicely. It keeps falling in my face though. Also, I don't like how it doesn't look like it's growing out of scalp, the very front near for head is really thick unlike a lace front which is so thin and lies right on scalp. I wore my freedom to a dance audition today and I kept having to run out an wipe it off in bathroom.... because it was a sweat trap and the suction started releasing. I live in Cali, so it is hot. I am dissapointed and hoping that I will get used to it, etc. but I do have to say I love my synthetic. LIGHT WEIGHT...stayed on with tape and looked realistic.

Hi Reese

I read your comments on another thread here and wanted to pop them here, as I understand that your Freedom wig is working well for you now...sometimes it just takes a little time as it is a big change for many people.

I've now been wearing my Freedom for 2 months. Finally, I have adapted to it and I am falling inlove with it.

:)  I'm so pleased you hung in there and turned your freedom hair into you.

Rosy

Yes took about two weeks to figure out the fit, now inlove.

I have 4 Freedom Wigs. The reason I have so many is because they have changed my life.  Not only are friends and even some family members still in shock that it is NOT my hair - or that it's actually a wig - but the care and freedom I have when wearing it make every single minute - week - month worth waiting for.  I'm a Realtor and lost so much self confidence when I lost my hair 5 years ago - when I found this hair - this wig  - I gained mySELF back.  Thank God!

The hair is UNTOUCHED HAIR - not like other sites who CLAIM that the hair is "untouched" or "European" _ (what the heck that means I still have not figured out). As you all know you cannot GROW hair any faster than it naturally grows. And there are not many folks out there growing their hair out just to cut it and sell it. (Sadly, we cannot create some type of hair farm)  It's a tough tight market. To have the completely virgin hair than sometimes - you have to wait. I was not patient either but when I got my hair - I got over it because it was so worth the wait. The reps don't know when it's going to be a color that is not overly available - they don't know how many other reps sold that same color or type - so they can't tell you upfront that it's not avialable.  I have the Freedom Wig and I have the other one that claims to be just as good as the Freedom wig - I've never had the chance to wear that wig - the hair is snarly and broken.  It's a disgusting piece and I'm mad that I spent that kind of money on such a piece of junk.  So - What I would say is this - if you have to have something now - than buy a wig or hat with hair and wear it while you wait. When you do get your piece - have it cut and styled - you are going to be over the moon.

Hello, this is Jenny, the OP again.

Well, I just got my hair yesterday! I believe Rose Maria went to my IA after I posted, and Freedom was able to get me a slightly different color, so it came faster than it would have otherwise. (I ordered the hair on January 31, and got it on June 11.)

It is too new for me to give a report yet. One thing that it odd is that my head itches when I wear it; I'm not sure why.

Also, i have an appointment to get it cut and the stylist kinda terrified me. She said repeatedly and forcefully that it was very important that it fit right, because otherwise there could be problems cutting it. Well, I THINK it fits right, but I'm still not sure yet that I'm putting it on right ... and if it didn't fit right, what would I do about it at this point anyway?? So I'm a little puzzled, and of course I'm scared to death that I won't like the cut when I do get it.

I will be sure to post an update when I have had the hair long enough to comment. Thanks, Rose, for your help.
