Since I was 19 (over 35 years), my passion has been International and Balkan folk music and dancing. I teach a weekly folk dance class, and I play several kinds of drums in two San Diego-area bands. The dances are very energetic, and I teach the class bald - too hot for even a scarf. My class very quickly got used to the new me when I lost my hair last January - besides, they're watching my feet, not my head!
The music is fascinating, with interesting rhythms and harmonies. The bands are called "Eastern Exposure" and "Dromia". We play traditional dance music from Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Turkey, Armenia and some other countries, as well as Rom (Gypsy) tunes.
