So I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areta about 4 months ago, and was giving Clobetasol Solution along with some laser treatment, that I have now stopped both of. In the last few weeks I have more hairloss now than ever, after what seemed to stop while I was on clobetasol. My confusion lies in that I've heard people saying Clobetasol has various uses. I thought it was just suppose to help with the itching, and redness, but does it also help with re-growth? I stopped the treatment, because it covered my head in pimples, and seemed to make it more red. I also was worried about the thinning of the scalp warning. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day

I was also on this treatment but not the laser and the solution caused major pimples too! My doctor stopped the treatment and I am still having problems with pimples after one month! Not sure that helps?..
Here's some more info on clobetasol --> http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000859/

When I was diagnosed with lichen planopilaris/cicatricial alopecia, I was prescribed Olux-E foam (one of the many brand names for clobetasol) to get rid of the inflammation, itching and burning. My understanding from my derm is that the immune response that causes the inflammation/itching/burning is what destroys the hair follicles. It's necessary to get that under control first to prevent further damage. After that was under control, the next step would have been trying to work on regrowth in areas where the follicles weren't destroyed. Since the main thing making my life miserable was the itchy/burning pain, after that was eliminated with the Olux, I declined any further treatment and quit using the Rogaine. That was the best decision for me, but all of us are different.

There are side effects associated with the use of corticosteroids, so you should definitely let your doctor know about the pimples and redness. You want to be sure you're not having an allergic reaction. Or, perhaps an adjustment in form or dosage can be made to your prescription.

I had the same side effects from the clobetasol (the pimples), Its called folliculitis and is common from topical steroids. The clobetasol will help with the burning and itching yes but does actually help the hair grow back as it stops the immune response that is attacking your hair and causing it to fall out.
I used a triclosan wash and mupirocin cream and this helped the pimples resolve. (I had the benefit of being a pharmacist and knowing what was going on so I knew what to ask the Dr for) However the clobetasol didn't work for me so I stopped using it after about a year. I do however have a client that is using it and it has stopped her hair loss which is very encouraging!

I used clobetasol for a while but it was more pain than it was worth. I used it without laser but it would make my head itchy (and i think just make my hair fall out more) so I quit.
