I'm definitely having a flare and I'm shedding a lot. I'm just sick of trying to fake that my hair is what it once was. I had a beautiful straight bob of bouncing brunette hair. Now it's just a limp sad weightless hoax. In 2 weeks I'm going to it cut really short in a pixie style. I'm about to the point of cutting it myself I hate how it looks and feels so much.

Have you done the pixie? Next, once that evolves to more loss has anyone buzzed what's left to try to blend the front/side hairloss with remaining hair as almost an intentional look? Dressed up hairbands and good make up?

I'm obsessing and hacked off over this stupid disease. I needed to vent and to look for glimmers of hope that's not a wig. Thank you for listening. Hugs to you all!!!

I now have a short pixie, and was surprised to find I love it!  So much easier to care for, and have had a couple of heart-warming compliments.  My "bangs" are now brushed forward all the way from the back of my crown, and still sparse -- but it looks OK with a pixie.  I do wear fabric headbands/narrow scarves when the bangs don't behave.  I wish you happiness.

I can't pull off a pixie but I think I'm definitely going to go shorter. The texture of my hair has really changed. It feels like straw, I already had a high forehead and my bangs are so thin and plus my scalp is more sensitive (strange tingling feeling) so longer hair really bothers me now. Ugh

Do you ladies have a shampoo that you like? Your posts are inspiring

I say go for it! So weird that you posted this as the same thought has come into my head also, super short and maybe use a wig when I want "hair" I feel like I want to own this alopecia instead of it owning me and having to constantly mess around with my awful hair.

Terri and ClassicalAnn, your hair sounds awesome and a great cut/color can do wonders for sure :-)

AnnieMay, my hair is also now a weird frizzy thin dry texture too that nothing I do seems to help as it just ends up reverting to the frizz soon after.

I have been shortening my bob over time to where the top of my ears are still covered. The thing that is driving me nuts are my bangs. My sides are going and my temples are moving back so I have a huge gap where my bangs are and my other hair. God forbid the wind blows in the wrong direction! I have always had bangs so it'll be a big step to shorten them dramatically but I think it needs to be done to try to blend the hair loss into a purposeful intentional look. Oh the mind tricks to get through this!!!

The shampoo I've been using is Nioxin 4 for color treated hair ( I still put highlights in). I also use Viviscal Gorgeous Growth when I get tired of Nioxin. Of course the hair that looks the worst gets tangled the most so a few squirts of Loma Detangling Conditioner helps that.

Thank you all again! A few people know what I have and although they try to be helpful with-"oh you'll look great in a wig! I'll go with you!" Going to a wig store with friends was never on my all time fun things to do list.

Stupid disease!!!!

Hi folks. I've had this FFA for going on 8 years now . I've lost about 2 1/2 inches all around the hairline. I bought a cute wig but found it so uncomfortable . Then I went to a salon where they specialized in hair extensions and bought a frontal peice which my hairdresser trimmed to fit me. So far it has been the best solution. It just clips in quite easily and sure helps on the bad days.

I also had my non-existant eyebrows microbladed and wow what a huge difference. It was painful but well worth it.! I find that everyone attacks this disease in a manner which suits themselves but this website is such a wonderful source of support and ideas. I couldn't survive without all of you helping with suggestions and moral support ! Thank you all.

Go for it! I've started using a L'Oreal hair dye touch up product above my ears in my nearly hairless zones. I have much more confidence going out in the wind now :) and my collection of head bands is up to six.
I've had my eyebrows tattooed and I'm totally over the steroid cream my dermatologist gave me.
So I'm waiting for my Endocronologist appt for my next method of attack on this foul disease.
Good luck to you all
Jo

Well after all this talk about haircuts ;-) I made an appointment at an upscale salon for a cut and maybe color- I am fully aware that this may very well be my last summer with my own hair and the future will include helper hair (I have my topper that I see every morning that I still haven't done anything with, but is there, waiting for it's time)  or having it all cut off or something.... so I want to go for it and get a cut that will make the best of what is on my head at the moment!  This person who will be doing my hair has apparently cut & styled the hair of all sorts of famous people & models etc.. , but making beautiful people more beautiful is easy, let's see what she can do with FFA hair, Ha! that will be a challenge for her for sure!

Oh and after reading over and over about microblading, I have also made an appointment for a consultation for my eyebrows, yay! Hopefully no more worry about accidentally wiping off an eyebrow, ugh :-/
