Hello fellow FFA suffers

Sigh, the tops of my thighs are irritated.  I can't wear jeans/pants because of the prickly feeling on my thighs. Anything tight fitting. Just like on my head when I wear a hat.  Maybe I am losing hair there?  It's hard to tell as I am fair.

I think I am still in active hair loss as I still have a itchy scalp and eyebrows but just wondered if others that have had hair loss elsewhere got this feeling as well.

Hi Leni

Do you think it was the sun or suntan lotion? I wonder whether my FFA might have been caused by using the sun lotion that you only apply once per day. That would explain my hair loss over all my body and then just the FFA along the hair line - as I didn't put the suntan lotion in my hair. Or maybe it was a combination of that suntan lotion and stress. :/

FFA sadly isn't limited to the scalp... the pattern seems to be unpredictable and different for us all so hopefully your scalp is less affected (fingers crossed)

I had itchy thighs and up into hip area - would get small red blotchy spots - slightly scaly. I used a steroid cream to calm it down. It was weird because it usually only happened Jan - April or so. Sometimes I would get it on the inner part of my arms too. I had this long before I noticed the hair loss. All of these issues seem to be tied to the immune system and stress.

I've got itchy forearms, for about 2-3 years, my forearms/wrists would itch so badly that I would scratch until I drew blood- tried cortisone ointments, prescriptions steroids, tea tree oil, nothing would help- I couldn't stand to have my arms damp or wet as that seemed to make it worse and I was always pushing my sleeves up to avoid friction on my arms- it really was nightmarish.  I actually hadn't had any itchiness for several months until this morning, when it literally feels like something is digging into my arm causing redness and small little bumps and the crazy bad itchiness, then the remembering of how horrendous it was came back to me.  Now after seeing all the postings on here about itching, I realize that it has something to do with this FFA, luckily I guess, it is only my forearms and not anywhere else

Oh no Minter sorry to read the itchiness is back.  Hope it is only short lived for you :(

Did you get diagnosed with lichen planopilaris?? I did. I am thinking there is more to this diagnosis too. There are different versions of this condition that affect skin( not just hair). Lichen plains for instance.

Thanks Jacq, I hope it is getting better for you, it is bad enough on my arms, I couldn't imagine it on the legs, its a horrid feeling!

Leni, yes, I've been diagnosed with lichen planopilaris too- if I had had a decent dermatologist several years back when I first went about my forearms, maybe the FFA would have been diagnosed along with LP back then :-/

It's so frustrating looking back on all of this. Perhaps more could have been done and an earlier diagnosis. Had to have extreme circumstances for my dr to finally take a hair sample. I've been treated for the eyebrow loss for many years. No other tests were done to figure it out, just treat the symptoms. I also sought out numerous doctors about my itchy skin. Nothing came up until now. :(

Leni, this whole thing is frustrating for sure! I think, I hope as this becomes more well known, that when women or men, present themselves to doctors with these symptoms-that it will be diagnosed earlier and especially with the skin problems get relief. The hair loss, who knows if that will ever be cured.
