Hello. I am new to this group and I am grateful for all the support, information and advice. I am 33 years old, and was diagnosed a couple of months ago with FFA. I noticed my hair falling out a few years ago and my hairline receding. My doctor thought it was nothing and my dermatologist thought it was just hereditary and did nothing at the time. I had half of my thyroid removed two years ago and my hair fell out really bad after that. My dermatologist did a biopsy in the fall and it came back as FFA. I am pretty devastated as I am only 33 and have always had long beautiful blonde hair and already have a large forehead! I had been using a compound of monoxide and finasteride for 8 months but didn't really notice any new growth. Maybe a little. So I went off of it. She then prescribe me doxycycline but it was making me vomit so I stopped taking it. I've noticed that my hair has really fallen out bad lately. So I'm going to use the compound again. I have been seeing a lot of results posted from the product Monat. Has anyone used it? I know it won't help regrow new hair where my hair has falling out but I am curious if it will help what I have left and help halt it from falling out further and my hairline receding further. I feel like time is of the essence and I want to make the right decision of what product to use. I know any of these products take at least 6 to 8 months to work. And I also know that there is not one solution after reading and doing some research. It's a scary thing to lose your hair as a woman. Has anyone tried it? Or does anyone recommend a prescription, product, diet changes. Thank you!

I have not heard of it, but I'll research it.  Hang in there!  FFA is an emotional roller coaster for all of us unfortunately.  We're here for you!

Thank you very much Christi. I appreciate that!
Hi there, I'm 34, diagnosed at 29, so I can definitely sympathize with you. I have not tried Monat, but will look into it. I've tried almost every drug without much success. Right now I'm using clobetasol foam and I take fish oil an tumeric. I'm not sure if it's helping or not, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something.
Monat is shampoo and treatment systems. I have seen a lot of success stories with people who have alopecia but since ours is fibrosing I'm wondering if it helps halt the loss. It's frustrating that so many of us are just grasping at straws to find something to help us but there isn't one thing proven to help FFA. I don't want my hairline to go back any further or my hair to thin out anymore than it has :(
I started using the IRT system from Monat almost two months ago. Unfortunately I got diagnosed with FFA a few weeks ago. So now I don't know what's happening because of what. I can tell you that I definitely had less hair falling out and the shine and "life" of my hair seemed better however no growth was noticed. But I know it can take three months. My dermatologist said there's no proven clinical studies for Monat but it won't hurt to try to use it since it's a more natural option, to go along with all the chemical meds we are all on for FFA.
Thanks Ruth. Sorry to hear you were diagnosed with FFA. May I ask you What medication you are taking? I was thinking the same thing. Take an anti-biotic/anti-inflammatory and use Monat. I know it won't help regrow the hair I lost but may help keep what I have and improve the texture. Thank you for your input. Much appreciated.
Hi sorry I haven't figured out how to see my notifications for this site yet as I'm new ;).
I'm on doxycycline once a day, just started rogaine just in the upper corners of my forehead as the dermatologist said it hasn't scarred over there yet. I'm also on a differin cream for my facial rash from FFA that isn't working it seems and protopic for my eyebrow area as derm thought they might regrow a bit. But have been gone for years so I doubt it.
I was going to post a discussion about using rosemary either The essential oil or as a hair wash. My mom has been using it who doesn't have FFA but definitely has hair thinning And she personally has noticed a lot less hair falling out. So that is something I might do. There's a lot when you google it actually!:)
Hi Ruth. I haven't heard to use rosemary. I'll have to look into that too. I don't have a rash luckily but do have some bumps on my face that I can't figure out what they are. I'm seeing my Derm Monday. Hoping she can prescribe me a different anti-inflammatory/anti-biotic since Doxycycline was making me sick to my stomach. I just started drinking Turmeric tea which is suppose to be a great anti-inflammatory. I'm noticing my hair has really, really thinned out over the past month or two and my hairline is really receding. It's so stressful. I'm only 33. I wish there were some answers .
