I live in a small town by the sea (around 30,000 people live here).

I think there is a very high number of people that are affected by this condition in my town, given that I have seen quite a number of people that have it. In the last week alone I saw three other ladies with FFA-pattern hair loss.

Besides all these cases that I have seen, I personally know three others - 2 in my family and another lady who goes to the same hairdresser as me.

This has me wondering more and more if there isn't some sort of environmental factor also triggers the condition in those genetically predisposed to it. I can't really understand it, given that this town isn't heavily industrialized and has no pollution issues whatsoever.

I live in a similar place, in that there is really no industrialization or pollution issues either, except it is a much, much smaller town-  When I go out and about, grocery shopping, running errands, that kind of stuff, it has become a habit of mine when I see women in their 40's + to glance at their arms and then the hairline :-/ can't help it!  Anyway, I almost always see at least one woman with FFA symptoms, hairless arms and the telltale "band". Why is this happening to so many of us? Who knows :-(

So bizarre - do you eat seafood or oysters?

what kinds of seafood do you eat on a regular basis - oysters by chance?

Hi Joy!

Whenever I eat seafood, other than fish, usually it's shrimp (which I absolutely love) and clams, sometimes - and this is about 4-6 times/year. Oysters not so much - I think I ate a grand total of 2 oysters in my whole life (in different occasions).

In any case, about half my meals are fish based and I usually have a mediterranean diet (which for me is normal, being in Portugal)
