One year ago I was diagnosed with alopecia areata. Recently, it has taken its toll on me and I've lost all my hair. Fortunately, it is growing back. But it can fall out again. Although, this disease isn't life threatening, it has one of the highest rates of suicide for an autoimmune disease. So, I have decided to post this picture of my baldish head without a wig or extensions to stand up against physical insecurities. And show everyone who is struggling that a physical insecurity doesn't need to run your life. Whether its your hair, your weight, or anything your struggling with, you are not alone. and decide TODAY to take a stand. Don't let your appearance run your life. My hair is not who I am.

Thanks for sharing; it must have taken a lot of courage to do so :)

That's a great picture and equally great confidence. I look at overcomers in awe. I hope to be at such an acceptance of myself in this hair loss state. Thank you for your inspiring words and confident outlook!

Mmassella,
You have lovely, warm features! Try to meet up with supportive family and friends. Life will get better, as it does for so many. Decide to embrace life, you deserve the best life possible. Don't let anything get in your way.

mmassella, Looking at that beautiful face, I think hair might be a distraction in your case!  Seriously, I am not belittling your situation; I really admire how you handle it.  I am so glad that you mentioned the suicide factor in alopecia.  It simply infuriates me when you tell someone without alopecia about your condition, they often respond, "Oh well, at least it's not life-threatening."  Really?  Perhaps they might want to rethink that one.  I'm sure they are trying to be helpful, but they come across as dismissing you and your feelings.  Furthermore, these are the same people who cannot leave their house if they are having even a remotely bad hair day!  Thanks for posting your picture.  You really are beautiful and it's nice to see something so attractive to start off the day.
