hi all - i joined this site ages ago and then completely forgot about it. i'm in the market to switch up my hairstyle (wig haha) and thought i might get some good advice here. i love my current wig and have been getting the same one for years but need to wear a headband with it - the style i get doesn't look natural on its own and i don't feel like its secure on my head without it either. i'm getting sick of the headband though and am thinking it may be time to invest in a better piece that will look natural without it and feel secure on my head (my current one is about 1000 which i think is on the low price range for human hair and not really customized). i remember reading once about a "vacuum cap" wig - anyone have experience with those/can give any recommendations?

i live about 20 min from manhattan so i'm assuming i should have access to some really great wig salons - any suggestions? surrounding areas as well if you know of any! thanks!!

***also, i'm moving to london in a few months, so if you have any suggestions there, please share as well :)

Hi i am in the UK, I suggest you join the alopecia UK website and ask people there about cost of vacuum wigs in UK, I wear stnthetics which I love so dont have info on vacuums. Alopecia UK have a support group that meets once a month in London if you ever feel like dropping by. Good luck with your move.

i definitely will look into that when i get there, thank you for the info!!

hi I'm in the UK and wear a vacuum wig from freedom wigs, I think the wigs are amazing compared to others because the hair is amazing quality (never matts), you can cut dye or perm it! It does not move. downsides are it can get hot because it has a silicon cap which it moulded to your head. I personally don't think it's any hotter than normal wigs. It doesn't itch because there's no knots next to your skin. its not tight and doesn't give you a headache either. I find lying down on my back in a bit difficult pressure on the back releases the vacuum. Other down points it's so realistic you become a bit dependent on it! I go swimming with the kids in mine too. I have had my current wig 5 years it cost £1500 and I paid £300 for reconditioning about 18 months ago. If you can afford it go for it- also you need to keep your head shaved to get the suction, hope that helps x

thank you so much for all that info, very helpful! where in the UK did you purchase it?

Hi

I'm an advocate of Freedom Wigs and think that they may be worth checking out.

There is a Freedom Indepedent Agent close by...

Her Name is Jaine Frank... here is her email jaine@metrohairgroup.com

There is also an Indepedent Agent close to London, Sue Renigan ... here is her email sue@positivelyhair.co.uk

Good luck with your investigations.

thank you so much rose marie - is the only way to purchase a freedom wig through an independent agent? is Jaine Frank in the NYC area? maybe i will reach out to her before leaving for london - ideally i would like to have it before i move!

Hi G

Yes, you can only purchase a Freedom Wig through an Independent Agent.  The choice of who to work with is your own.

Freedom Wigs are fully manufactured in New Zealand the Independent Agents work to understand each of their clients needs, then they send the specifications for their Freedom Wig to New Zealand to get made. A Freedom Wig is fully customised, so you have to have a very good relationship with your Independent Agent of choice so you can pass on to her your needs.

Good luck with everything and if I can help with any general information about Freedom Wigs feel free to ask.

Rosy
