This is my first summer completely bald. Last summer I could still cover it up carefully with a ponytail. Now..I wear a wig all day. I'm not looking forward to summer because I'm sure my wigs will be hot and itchy. And, I obviously can't wear my wigs to swim (they're not vacuum wigs). I don't want to spend the whole summer not being able to swim :(
I've never gone out bald before, and I don't really want to in summer, because my skin is VERY fair, and even with sunscreen I burn. How can I go swimming? Do you go swimming?
I would go bald with some people that I'm close to, like my family and boyfriend, but often we'll go camping as a big group of friends, and I don't want to go bald, and have my boyfriends friends make comments to him that he's dating a bald girl. None of his friends know. I mean they're nice, but they've only ever seen me with a wig on. I just don't know what to do :(

P.S. If you live your life based on what someone MIGHT say, you'll miss out on a lot of living that way! Just a friendly piece of advice from someone who's danced that dance :)
You're right, thanks! I'll need about SPF 90 lol
Just be yourself, your family and boyfriend accept it so who else matters
Sydney swim cap is the way to go. I got one last year. it is a swim cap with hair attached to it......I love mine!
Hi Charity -

I had a similar situation a few years back. My friends sat all of their friends down who didn't know about my Alopecia and explained my situation to them. They said that if anyone threw me in the pool, dunked me in the water or embarrassed me in any way they would personally make them very sorry. I put my wig up into an alligator clip and I never had any issues whatsoever. Bottom line - You have to do what makes you comfortable. I am sure that we have all had encounters with very mean spirited and callous individuals but I have found that they are usually the minority. In my experience people are going to like you whether you have hair or not and if not then your Alopecia just did you a favor.
