This is my first summer completely bald. Last summer I could still cover it up carefully with a ponytail. Now..I wear a wig all day. I'm not looking forward to summer because I'm sure my wigs will be hot and itchy. And, I obviously can't wear my wigs to swim (they're not vacuum wigs). I don't want to spend the whole summer not being able to swim :(
I've never gone out bald before, and I don't really want to in summer, because my skin is VERY fair, and even with sunscreen I burn. How can I go swimming? Do you go swimming?
I would go bald with some people that I'm close to, like my family and boyfriend, but often we'll go camping as a big group of friends, and I don't want to go bald, and have my boyfriends friends make comments to him that he's dating a bald girl. None of his friends know. I mean they're nice, but they've only ever seen me with a wig on. I just don't know what to do :(

I buy these adorable swim caps from: www.headcovers.com. They have a pretty big variety of swim caps, and they are soooo cute! No one will have to know that you are bald if you don't want them to, just put on your cap and voila! :)
I have a swim cap too! It's a retro swim cap and its adorable! My bf bought it for me just before we went on our huge island vacation and I was super stressed about swimming in the sea because I've never had such bad hair loss. But it worked out great!
I've actually been looking at those! Thanks.
That's a really good idea! Thank you
I had this for problem for the first time last year... I ended up buying bandanas that matched the bathings suits or sundresses and I wore in the ocean and never had to worry about what my "hair" looked like... :-)
True! thanks!
It took me a while to work up to it, but now I feel swimming is one of the things baldness clearly makes much better. At a beach or pool, beachwear changes most everyone's look. I'd say I've had fewer people bother me about baldness at beaches and pools than elsewhere. Maybe that's because there's so much people-watching to do that my bald head doesn't keep their attention.

I use a lot of water"proof" sunscreen. Other than that, I get to just relax and feel the joy of no hair worries, sliding through the water, being me. If I'm going to be in the water a long time, like for snorkeling, I might wear something on my head. On the beach, I usually wear a hat for sun protection.

If you do wear a wig in the water, don't do a somersault. I did once, and my wig came up in a different location than my head! I wish I had a video of it--I and everyone around thought it was hilarious.
I'm with you, Lisa. Here's my blog and a photo from my first scuba trip bald last year. It's so easy, and so comfortable. I know it's not for everyone, but it works for me:

I wish I was that comfortable already!
Haha, thanks!
Thanks! I'm buying a shorter one today, so I'll be more comfortable in summer I think.
Thank you for your post! I had the same question as I love to go to the beach and swim in the ocean. I just ordered some really cute things on the headcovers website. I'm excited to get them!
