Hi there,

I'm looking for a hair stylist who is able to work with thinning hair (I have androgenetic alopecia due to thyroid disease). I hate going to regular salons where there are always comments like "Oh wow, your hair is really thin," or if I tell them about my problem they tend to minimize like, "Oh no, it's not that bad."

I'm looking for a stylist who is able to work with what I have and not pretend like it's going to be like normal hair! There is a wig salon that cuts bio hair too, but I didn't feel like they were the most fashionable.

I live in Austin, TX. Any suggestions?

Hi Alo-mom,

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't a huge fan of toppers but I'd have to have a decent hair cut if I'm to consider a topper anyway. So the question still remains!

Ok, so this is what I would do if you are my daughter. I would call the local Cancer Society and ask if they have the Feel Good, Look Great Program. Why? Because if they do they are usually are run by women who have their Cosmetology License and they might be able to recommend a salon in town that knows how to cut wigs. You have to be very careful, as you well know. This is the way I found a Salon in Tucson while my daughter was attending college and she needed her wig cut and styled. They sent me to a wonderful Salon with a staff of very compassionate stylist. They would not even charge me because they felt it was a good deed to help us out. Those are my thoughts for the day,
