Hi again,my son lost all of his hair very quickly in september 2013.tried a few different treatments without any success.lately though,he has had some regrowth.about 40% of his head hair is regrowing and also a little on his chest and he feels a little bristley on his eyebrows.having been diagnosed with au we are quite exited about this.his derm said he had practically no chance of ever growing hair again.the fact that some of his hair has returned, his body or metabolism or whatever you call it knows he can grow hair so there should be no reason why it all shouldn't grow back.he's not building his hopes up as we all know how unpredictable alopecia can be.i was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.

Best of luck to your son, David. I've had AU for 17 years and no regrowth. Yes, alopecia is unpredictable. It's very tough to deal with.

Hi,thanks for the encouraging reply.i was wondering though.in the 17 years you have had au have you ever had any regrowth at all.even just a little?

my son also lost his hair quickly in dec 2012.  all of the sudden this year, he has had a lot of regrowth, without doing anything i think that is the way alopecia is.  it has a mind of its own.  good luck to you and your son!

Pleased to hear your son has had some regrowth too,i think stress plays its part in this condition.at the time my son lost his hair he was having a rough time with his girlfriend and generally was not in a good place emotionaly.now though, having ended that relationship he's in a much happier place.like i said in my original post.we are not building our hopes up or taking anything granted.i sincerely hope your son's hair continues to grow.thanks again for the reply.it's nice to know that someone is in a similar position as ourselves.

I don't mean to be a downer, the reasons for hair loss are a varied as the people who have it, but you asked about experiences w/regrowth, and this is mine. I lost 80% of my hair 3 years ago (scalp; almost all on legs, arms); the hair on the scalp grew back. Lost it again 7-8 months later; scalp hair and arm hair grew back. Last Oct., I noticed it falling out again. It took 3 months, but this time I have lost almost all the hair on my scalp, my eyebrows and eyelashes went this time, which has never happened. I don't know if it will grow back, but I was mentally ready to be bald the first time I lost it, so I'm okay w/it if it doesn't. I've actually grown tired of the mental roller-coaster ride this has put me through over the last 3 years. I wish your son all the best; good luck.
