For the ones who like an update about Susans (13 years)  dr's visit today:

Doctor looked at her scalp and said she has seborrheic dermatitis. (thinking back, she had cradle crap as a baby too). She did get a medicated shampoo just for her scalp (use twice a week).

She said too her hairs are coming out from the roots (what i was 99% sure off already). All over the place. New baby hairs who are coming in are coming out too. Then she mentioned the term: telogen effluvium (???? Isn't that just a term for hair-loss?????)

She said she wants to check more blood work, then the pediatrician did. She was thinking it might be a iron shortage. So we went for blood work: ANA, B12, Ferritin and Zinc.

Results in 2 weeks ( that ANA test takes that long, they sent that off somewhere else) when we have to come back.

She said in the main time to keep going with the hair vitamins she is taking. And she said she can do with her hair what she wants to, but no tight pony tails.

I had a busy day today. But did some research. Did figure out ANA stands for antinuclear antibodies (auto imune reaction), ferritin  means they test for iron and inflammation.

Did read too that that cradle cap can cause problems with the hair follicles.

Some friends asked her today why she missed school and she answered : i had to go to the dr for my hair. Thats it. No questions asked and they just moved on! ;) Glad she has great friends!
