My daughter has had two episodes of regrowth. Does anyone else have the same experience that when fall comes, her hair starts to fall out again! Other than my child being akin to a deciduous tree, I don't understand. She does not show any other symptoms of allergies. Any insight would be great.

This topic was just discussed at the last NYC support group meeting. One of the participants brought up an article they found that discussed the idea of moulting which we see with some birds. The medical advisor said she hadn't heard of this idea of shedding at certain points of the year, believing it may be more that you shed at certain hormonal changes but she would look in to it and get back to us. If she finds anything for the November meeting I'll let you know :)
Please give me a calll I will explain to you what I learned at the children's alopecia project conf. about this exact thing. here is my number... for all of AW lol... 248-528-2801 Sarah
We are going through this right now. My son received his first spot last Nov he lost about 50% of his hair but this summer regrew most of it. Just this month it has been falling out faster than last year. Our Dr. said for some reason they tend to see this pattern alot in children. I'm have faith that it will grow back again.

Same here. 3rd year of daughter with AA & severe loss in fall/winter with spring/summer regrowth.

I've had AU for 6 years, my hair has regrown a little at times - but in white and like straw, then gone again.  I think the disease just isn't as strong in me ( and your daughter).  Just 5 months ago I started getting dark patches of regrowth that haven't fallen out, and every week there are more circles - as it is growing in the same as it left - in circles and patterns.  I have also regrown all of my body hair in the last 8 months.  There was one time that I was completely hairless, but basically my hair has always struggled to regrow.  I tried every witches cure there was, without certain results.  I quit trying anything about a year ago, so this regrowth is all me. I have no allergies.

I feel certain that your daughter will one day have hair again, as her sytem keeps trying, much good luck.

Hi Tara, I'm 19 and have had alopecia for the last eight years (though it's only areata). I lost all my hair in the first bout, but since then it has been seasonal, though I've been blessed in being able to keep a full head of hair and only lose non-noticeable patches. I've been getting cortisone injections monthly, and even if they may not always work, it's like a placebo effect and I feel better. I put rogaine on every night, and regulate my diet and exercise daily. While every case is different, I can honestly say that diet and exercise are helpful no matter what.
Luckily a doctor recently found the gene responsible for alopecia, so your daughter may see a cure within the next decade (here's to all of us on this site crossing our fingers!)
Hi, I know this is an old post, but I found it while searching for information on seasonal alopecia. My 9 year old son has had alopecia for a few years, and I think it's seasonal. It falls out in the winter and regrows in the summer. Do you have any information or other sites you could recommend? I hope your daughter is doing well.

Thanks.

Hi State - I have no credible information on seasonal alopecia.  It's been very frustrating to say the least!  Given that it is fall, we are watching to see what will happen - her hair did grow in over the summer without any treatment which is promising.  I'll post something if I find out anything else.

Good luck!

Hi - we have exactly the same issue with my daughter. We live in the southern hemisphere so it's autumn here now and her hair is falling out. The same thing happened last March/April. I've been searching and searching for information on seasonal alopecia (in children, not animals!) but can't find anything. Hope your son's hair is regrowing by now? Let me know if you managed to find anything out?

My six years son has AA since he was 2. we live in Calgary, canada. I made photo journeys about his condition from the begining. every summer His hair grow back 80-90% full. but During Ocotber-April is his hair worst period which patch dots everywhere around his head. He didn't take any oral pill or steriod cream since he is young, may will have side effects. I want to share some info i personal expericed from my son's bettle with AA: Hopfully help.
1) try not wear any hats as possible: My boy used play hockey. hockey hemlet made him condition worsen in very quick speed. even regular summer hats are bad for him.
2) try give child more outdoor sun expose as possible: I guess this may explains why summer is best season for his hair grow.
3) try use less hair shampon as possible: Most shampon at market contains chemical. Most of time i just use water.
4) try give him thin layer hair cut as possible: this way scalp get more fresh air expose and get more oxyen.
