Hi there - thank you for sharing your story! I lost about 50% of my hair two years ago. Most of it has grown back, but I have roughly a dozen patches all over my head that I luckily, and for the time being, am able to hide.

In what form do you take cortisone - is it local injections, pill form, or intramuscular? And how often? The only reason my hair has grown back is because of the cortisone injections. I get scalp injections but I also do the intramuscular from time to time which has really helped. However, it's not something I'd prefer to do long term.

Would you mind telling me more about Methotrexate? Does it have a lot of side effects?

Hi there! I lost about 80% of my hair starting in may Of this year. My dermatologist suggested a probiotic and come back in 3 months. I was so upset! I looked like hag and was having bouts if depression. I did research and also discovered collagen and vitamins D.C. &B. The hydrolyzed collagen I take is a powder by a company called vital proteins (you can buy it in amazon) my hair has re grown back in all my bald spots!!! I have been taking the collogen for 3 months and I am very encouraged by the results!

Yvonne congrats on your hair regrowth. It looks amazing. Can you tell me the exact
Name of the collagen product you purchased from Amazon? I would like to order it. I have been dealing with AA for over 10 years and battling loss of hair and then regrowth. Have mostly taken cotisone injections and intramusxular injections but once stopped hair begins to fall out again after regrowth. I am holistic to begin with so am now on the natural path. Rubbing a combination of essential oils into my scalp each night before bed, yoga and healthy eating. Thank you

HI Yvonne, I would like to know exactly what you used. I have had alopecia my entire life..I am 48 and am now hairless :( but after this amount of time I have accepted the fact it could be worse, but I always wish for hair so...too old to try anything crazy but am all for natural supplements. I used castor oil on my eyebrows this summer and have had some luck with that as well. Congrats on your regrowth and thanks for sharing

Yvonne...can you please tell me what dosage of the hydrolyzed collagen you are taking?
Thank you so much for sharing your story!! Please tell us more about the medication taken. I would really love to see this French Doctor , is could you let me have his details. I have positive ANA so autoimmune hairloss which makes me cry every day. I can’t sit here and do nothing. So far all the dermatologists have been unhelpful and not too kind. My hairloss is very diffuse and have areas more thin than others. Just hate it!!!
Is it easy to get an appointment with him? How did you do it? Was he expensive?

i wish my hair to regrowth  back .i have alopecia  aerata .always regrowth back the hair if you louse like spots on you head.good luck to you all the best.thank you for sharing you story with us.

Lynne..thank you so much for sharing your story and experience with the French doctor. You do provide comfort to all of us alopecians and give us hope for a brighter day ahead. Has your French doctor discussed if you could have a relapse if you were to stop your medications? Wishing you continued hair growth and all the best for stabilization of this terrible condition.

Hi Lynne

I read your story with great interest as I've suffered all my life with AA, it always rears its ugly head (excuse the pun) with patches of hair loss when I am under stress.

Now, at the age of 62, its back again and with a vengeance this time.  I have been under great stress and once again, guess I will have to go back to the specialist to have a few more painful injections into my scalp.  You mentioned that your doctor prescribed cortisone, 20mg of methotrexate with vitamin B, Vitamin D and a low fat/low salt diet.  Are you talking cortisone in tablet form or injected into your scalp?  Do you also meditate?

I find it very hard to find the time to meditate but now have to force myself as I now have over 6 patches of bald all on the back of my head, fortunately hidden by hair above, but its getting worse and is very scary.

Thanks very much for sharing your story with fellow sufferers!  I have had it since I was in my early twenties and its back with me forty years later......just awful.

Many thanks

Deb

Deb- thank you for sharing your story with AA. I am 58 and share a similar story with the condition as you. Diagnosed for the first time at 37 with one small bald spot which was treated and had hair regrowth. Then was ok for years until the past 10 yeara. Have been suffering with bouts on and off all this time. Now at my worst ever with bald spots in the back of my head same as you. Still able to cover up with remaining hair. It is truly scary! All the best to you for quick hair regrowth :)

Hi TMB,

Thanks for your prompt response, so pleasing to have support with this awful condition.

What treatments are you using at the moment?  I tend to run off to the specialist to get cortisone injections which always help, however, I am always worried about the side-effects which are apparently an underminiing of the immune system.... but better than watching the bald spots get bigger every day.....yikes, very scary!!

Have you been under stress on and off?  I can definitely link it in with stress & the re-occurrence of the bald spots.
