My 8yr old son has just been diagnosed with alopecia during the summer he had a quarter size bald spot that turned into the size of a softball, we finally got him the shots and he has been prescribed a topical that I was praying would help decrease his hair loss..no luck with that though because by the first day of school his bald batch has turned into a zig zag pattern with little regrowth..the top of  his head on the left side of the crown is now slowly disappearing. My heart breaks every time I have to gently pick his hair out to hopefully hide it but it is getting worse. The dermatologist has mentioned to try Rogaine along with the shots in hopes he will have regrowth, I just am wondering if this is safe and is it effective?... Yesterday at school it was hat day for respect week and he said "yeah, today is going to be a good day mommy!"  I had to hold it together until I got in the car...I pray that God will help us understand how to deal with this and guide our son through this the best we can so any advice would be a blessing...
