hey everyone! I am very new to the website - and also to Alopecia. I am 22 years and and just graduated from college (heck yeah!!!) in March I discovered about a quarter sized spot in the back of my hair and didn't think much of it. A few weeks ago I showed my sister and took a photo for me and it doubled in size, maybe even tripled. I've had 2 rounds of shots since and things seem to be going well. The Internet can make a heaven out of hell (like this forum!) or a hell out of a heaven. I feel very blessed to have such a small spot in such an unnoticeable place. I have a few questions though for anyone kind enough to take the time to answer for me..

The majority of the members of this site and otherwise on the Internet experience full hair loss, is that the norm?

Has anyone had good success using rogaine in a small spot?

And also that my hair below the spot, at the very bottom of my head seem to be pretty thin, is this an indication that they too will fall out?

Hi I will tell you about my experience.  I found my spot in Jan/Feb, and it was the size of a quarter and now is larger than the palm of my hand.  It unfortunately is on top of my head and very hard to cover so I bought a wig 3 or so weeks ago and have been wearing it out in public ever since.  I stressed so much about my spot on top of my head that I am sure caused 3 more spots on the back of my head.   I got steroid shots on top and I do have hair growing in, it started out as fuzzy white hair and turned color although some stayed gray but the hair around that spot continues to fall out as does hair throughout my head is thinning.  I think stress is what caused mine and stressing over the hair loss caused more.  I don't know if or when it will stop falling out but I am doing my best to not stress over it and will keep hoping for the best.  I know others say they lost theirs quick and some say it took a year or more to lose all of their hair.  It seems to be different for everyone.  My father lost all of his in elementary school and it all grew back and now he just has the common male pattern baldness at age 74.  I stopped getting shots in fear it was causing more hair to fall out and my left eye was bothering me as well as my left ear, might not of had anything to do with the shots but I was scared it might have been.  Also my doctor gave me four full needles in four different spots, so a lot at once, he wasn't sure how to give them and I have to wait 8 months to get into  a dermatologist.
