Is it possible for alcohol to have an effect on hair loss 6 months later?

So I'm trying to get to the bottom of my hair loss. I've had alopecia for my entire life so the occasional bald spot or two is never a surprise to me, in general though my hairloss wasn't so bad--I could deal with it.

However, in February - August 2013 I was on an extended vacation in which I drank HEAVILY. I drank almost every night, and large quantities at that. Suffice to say, I don't know how I didn't die of liver poisoning that summer.

Anyway, I had noticed my hair started to fall out again during this vacation but I figured it was just the occasional baldspot. After I returned home in August, my hair loss started getting worse and worse. It was the worse episode I had ever been through in my entire life--quite literally.

In the 6 months following my return home (August-February) I lost about a quarter of my hair  in total. It is now growing back thank god, but my hair is still falling out in some places. I continued to drink after I returned home from my trip, but it was significantly less than before (i.e the occasional glass of wine a week, or a bottle on new years)

Now I've vowed to quit drinking since I've found out alcohol causes hair loss. I wasn't aware of this before unfortunately. What i'm  now curious about is, is it possible for alcohol to have an effect on hair loss 6 months after I had consumed it??

I am a daily wine drinker (2 or more glasses) and sometimes when we go out, I will have a cocktail or 2 before wine. When making a mexican meal, margaritas are always served!  I have never experienced any hair loss from alcohol.

Now I don't know if it's the same with everyone, but gluten is a huge factor with alopecia. Try avoiding beer, whiskey or any alcohols with gluten. I love my wine, so I'm happy to say wine, and vodka are the better choice ;)
