It was fine when it was just me. Seeing him go through this is the hardest thing I've ever been through and I've been through a lot. Today was the first day we had to shave his whole head due to the issue. He's losing it so much faster than I did. And a year earlier than me. I took my hair off and walked into his daycare with him. But he still wanted to wear his beanie cap I gave him. Doesn't help that's daughter started crying her eyes out when we walked in because she is afraid to be made fun of. I told her it's not about her and not her struggle. This morning was rough.

Hi

I don't have alopecia but my daughter does.  I think when alopecia effects one member of the family it actually effects all.  Everybody connected to your son (you, your daughter and other family members) are all effected by this situation.  It is often a crisis moment in families which require support and care for all.

In my job I have the good fortune to know and care for many dealing with alopecia.  This includes those mothers and fathers that have alopecia and also have children with alopecia.  This can be very challenging for the parent as they often have to deal with their own fears and issues so they can help their children through the challenges they are having. In my experience they have an innate understanding of what is needed and do very well.

If I can be of any support feel free to message me

I'm so sorry for you, it must be so difficult to watch someone you love go through something like that. I must be really hard on you and the family. On the positive note though, at least you can relate to him and understand what he's going through. You can try to give him all you wish someone gave you when you were going through it. Whether it's being there emotionally or physically, I know it would be easier for all of us if we could have a family member who understands us fully.

I wish you luck and all the best. Keep on smiling and doing the best you can and it'll be ok.
