I was about 13 or 14 when it started, but it didn't really thin out until college - one of the worst times possible. The comments were pretty rough from the shallow people that didn't know when to keep their mouths shut.

I tried covering it up for years, but realy didn't fool anyone.

There is nothing to do for me now.

I did the dermatologist, endocrinologist, pills, lotions and powder, lol and one day I just woke up and really didn't care anymore.

Whatever happens, happens.

So, while my hair has been really thin on top, in the last 2 weeks, chunks have been falling out. I've cut my hair twice trying to take the length and weight off of it.

Do I think it's harder as a kid to get it? You bet! You become stronger and a much more compassionate person.

I'm not saying to just live with it. Do whatever you can (that's healthy) to try to bring your hair back. If nothing works, you will learn your hair isn't you, you will be loved and you will can still have a beautiful life.

I watched my brother go through this at 10 and it was awful. H was teased and wouldn't ever leave without a hat on. I think I have been going through this since 18 looking back but it always grew back and I could figure other things to go with the loss. But it has been for the past year (36) that it started. Wile I don't think it is easy at any age, adult is much easier.

I was 8 when i notice my hair starting to fall out. i didn't know what to think or who was doing it. after my parents noticed patches in my head they swore up and down i was going into the bathroom in the middle of the night and making circles. in my head, that went on for a few months until they really realized that i wasn't doing it. My best friends mother who is a nurse had to explain to them that it has AA. after that my parents felt very remorseful they tried to buy me everything under the sun.
Elementary school was pretty tough i got teased alot i got called all types if names "the map" "spot" and a few others. i remember before i started wearing my hat, people use to look at me like i had cancer or something never wanted to play with me cause the was afaid they was going to catch whatever i had by my personality and good looks won them over!! lol
High school wasn't as bad i think going to a all boys school might have help alitte i didnt have to worry about the girls as much. i remember cutting my hair off like every other day so my peers wouldn't notice it as much. At one point i was getting about 90 shots in my head (think it was steroids ) for a while that worked. I tired a cream, and a few other things. for some reason i never tired Rogain , i guess im afraid of it not working and then being disappointed again . Im about to be turn 30 in July and im just noticing my eyebrows and eyes lashes are disappearing. :-( kinda sucks but i guess things could be worst.
I think losing your hair as a child is much worst, when your younger you don't have the confidence to deal with it straight on. for me my security blanket was my hat. never left home without it, i can count how many times i went to high school with out my hat! lol ( and im kinda still that way. I wonder who has more hats me or LL Cool J.

5 when I lost it all.

Both are as cruel I lost mine aged 5 so I had to go through school with it and I feel it was tougher as a child, I'm 38 now.

I purchased Arganlife products because I am losing my hair due to Alopecia Areata The product was easy to use. I did notice new hair growth while using it for 3 month.I would recommend it. In my opinion both of them worst because No matter how old anybody does not want to lose their hair.

Originally had spots at the age of 3. Had some more in junior high. Went a long time without any & unfortunately it's the worst it's ever been. I'm 36 & the lower half of my scalp has barely any hair.
Either way....child or adult....it's a huge hurtle. I started loosing my in my adult life around 21....in my college days....now I goin on 30. It's still a big issue for me. I haven't done the big shave yet. As a kids you have more time to adjust to it and find treatments or do the big shave....but you have the "why can't I be like others?" questions. Same as an adult....there are some days that I just live life.....and then there are days when AA gets to me.
I was three when it started. Two weeks before my fourth birthday I woke up to all my hair on my pillow. I just wore hats to school until middle school. Then I started wearing wigs. In high school I started at the Hair Club which I have been at for seven years now. Now that college is almost over I want to stop the Hair Club and just go without anything. I'm tired of trying to blend in. My boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful either way. He loves kissing my bald head. I don't know if it's easier to have it happen at a younger age or not, but it's definitely help me grow into the person I am today. I wouldn't change it for anything.
For me it started only 6 months ago, I'm 33 and have now lost most of the hair on my face bar eyebrows and eyelashes and have also developed 4 patches on my scalp. I have always suffered with small patches of psoriasis which have all but gone since I have developed alopecia.
