When I found out I had alopecia it was when I was 9 and now I'm 10. Its been hard for me going to school and not able to have fun like I used to do before I had alopecia.Being scared to live my normal life.I cryed and cryed  but then my mom told me '' your hair does not make you, only your heart'' that made me fill good for only 2-4 days but this just the begining

Good morning, Elyvia! I know how hard it is to be "different" - especially when you're a kid. My granddaughter was diagnosed with alopecia 1 year ago. She is now 6. Here's what I've told her: If you wrapped gold & diamonds up in an old shoe box, would they be less beautiful or less valuable? No, of course not. Well, your outside appearance is just the box. What's INSIDE is the precious gift. You are not what you look like, you are how you behave, and treat others. Your hair is not who you are! And, you can still do everything & anything, and BE everything & anything, you want - with or without hair! Your Mom is right. Your hair does NOT make you, only your HEART. And, I can tell by your post that you have a good, good heart - and that you are a smart, sensitive, caring girl. And, brave, too, I'll bet! Your are not alone, honey. Lots of people are dealing with this same difficulty - and doing all the great things they were meant to. You can & will, too. Love & hugs to you!

Hi Elyvia,

I know this is difficult.  Aimee is right - it helps to meet others with Alopecia.  It really helped me about 6 years ago - and I still get together with my Alopecia friends. :)

Here is a link to the Children's Alopecia Project in Atlanta.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/CAPKidGroupAtlanta

There is an Alopeciapalooza event planned in North Carolina in August that sounds like fun!  It is a camp for kids with alopecia, their siblings and parents.

Let us know if you join them and what you think!
