Hey so I've had alopecia since I was 13 and by the time I was 17 I had to shave completely. It took me a while but thanks to a friend of mine I've been able to accept it as it is but sometimes I get really angry thinking about how we can't do anything. We've all been told at some point that there's nothing we can do and that's just not right. So yeah I was just wondering if there's anyone else out there who feels this way and if so how do you cope with those feelings

Hi Lawrence,

I've never accepted it , ever.  I've had alopecia for over 11 years and not a single day goes by that I do not feel bitter, sad, insecure and angry about it.

I have a friend with MPB and even though they are different we share some similarities we can talk about it and express feelings which can help a bit.

Hi Lawrence

Like everything in life....you do have a choice on how to handle the things you can't control (there is a lot in life that you can't control).  You can choose to waste time and energy on being frustrated or feeling angry and sad....or you could become really proactive and work out what the best course of action is for you.  Living life well is a choice you make everyday.  When alopecia is first diagnosed you have every right to feel upset, frustrated and helpless...but most people don't like living that way...so they find things that help them process what has happened and assimilate it into their lives in a positive way. (some don't and you will come across them...not a great way to live life - but their choice, which may work for them).  Frustration around this is very understandable, but to live your life frustrated and angry is such a terrible waste. Be proactive and start being all you can be...only you know what that is.
