Ive been offered a Henna Head Crown by a wonderfully talented henna artist - which is rather exciting I think!

Ive never had one but after a friend sent me a picture of a bald singer she saw with some silver swirly bits on the side of her head Ive been pondering about it :)

I found someone about 60-90 minutes away, loved her intricate pictures of hands, feet etc (something a little different to the usual ones ive seen) and asked her if she had any done any head ones.

She hadnt but has offered to do my whole head for free if she can take piccies for her website.

So all quite exciting.

But having never had a henna tattoo before Im a bit worried about something.

My head is patchy - more hormonal type hair loss thats just got gradually worse so in some areas its very thin - almost not there - and in others its still quite dark and thick.

I keep the whole area bald (easier than the scarfs and hats i used to wear) and either shave or my preference Veet/Nair it off.

(now before anyone says I I am pretty certain Im not supposed to use Veet or Nair on my head etc... but it makes my head smoother, stops it hurting as the shaving can, doesnt come back so stubbly, no rashes and lasts longer)

So heres my ponder!!

What am I supposed to do when they hair starts coming back through - in the thick spots I usually have to see to it a couple of times a week if (if i want to not have a hat on that is!)

Having not had a henna tat before - does it shove the dye off? does shaving /using cream to remove the hair take it off anyhow? Ive read that you are supposed to try not to get the area wet for a couple of days (I think it was) and that I can do - but then im going to be starting to get stubbly.....

I want to be able to make the most of this - as I probably wont be able to get it done often - anyone have any experience - any ideas - any thought - any anything really!!

Im half excited and half worried!

Hi Riana
Thank you for having a read and getting back to me!
This one is a true henna tatto. So a paste made of henna with a little lemon juice or alike and applied like a paste where it stays for a couple of hours or so. The paste is the scraped off and an orangey sort of design is left. Over the next couple of days that colour turns a darker brown. On skin it can usually stay as a pattern anywhere between a few days and a couple or three weeks depending on how you treat it / care for it.
This is the sort of thing -

I'll be interested in seeing any answers you get to this, as I had planned to get a neat bit of henna art on my own head for the California conference last summer, but then didn't go because a better vacation option came up. I would think shaving, chemical reaction to any chance of growth, reaction to shots or creams, etc. would all be of concern. Personally, I wouldn't put Neet on my head or anywhere near my eyes, myself. Hey...do not use black henna: I found out online that it is illegal and not healthy.

Yup black henna is evil stuff! The lady whos offered is such a good artist - Ive seen a few of the bridal mehndis shes done and they are so pretty. Some of her designs have flowers in and Im hoping for something along that theme as I spend quite a bit of my time growing vegetables - although Im not sure Id want my head as one big turnip LOL

From what Ive reading (google google goole!) exfoliating takes the staining off - so that would be the shaving bit :-/

Hi Rose. What brand did you use?

Veet do a few different kinds and they have different smells - i dont find them as pungent as the old styles use to be!

I tend to use Veet or Nair - depending on what I can pick up (but not the in-shower one because that wants to stick to your skin forever!)

I have the kind of hair (body etc....) thats pretty strong and takes a lot of disolving (ha!) so I just leave it on and do test patches to see if its done its thing yet.

A thin layer doesnt really do it so I am quite generous and a few minutes in i sort of smooth over what is there - it seems to grip the hairs when its dried a bit.

The areas that are very thin on the head front dont take much time but the thicker parts do.

When its all ready to go I stand in the shower with my head right back and a hand protecting the front to make sure it all goes backwards and use one of those veet-scraper things to get the stuff off. I have thick parts of hair at the back and the scraper picks up more if i go up rather than down. If its not all coming off - you havent left it on long enough.

I have left it on too long before when ive been distracted and it all dried up! Lol Wasnt so easy to get off then but not awful - but just a bit more washing off and scraping and use of an exfoliating mit. It didnt damage my head but I had to scrape a bit more than usual and with a delicate head that wasnt the best plan lol Saying that - Ive done it again since and just been more gentle taking it off.

I moisturise after with some coconut butter or something lovely from Lush.

Im sure Im not doing my head much good in the long term - the packets do say to only use it on certain parts so please only do this on your own judgement!!

Im taking a little bit of comfort from your derm saying it was ok :) Can I ask why they said to give it a go?

Ive never tried clippers - your hair looks really short - how does it feel to the touch?

i know nothing about these tattoos, but would love to have one. Sorry, i can't give you any advice but keep me posted please. Good Luck, Leslie

i had my eyeliner tattooed on so i will ask my lady that did it if she knows anything about the henna tattoo. She has been tattooing for years so she probably does.

Fab stuff! You never know who might know or who knows someone who knows or knows someone who might know someone who knows :)

Fab Riana - would be good to get any thoughts from your friend :)

Oh how lucky are you. I would love to have the chance to have it done. I am totally bald and wear nothing on my head. I have been thinking of a head tattoo for ages, I would like a henna one to see how it would look. I have body tattoos and my eyebrows are tattooed also.
If you deceide to have it done, please post a picture so we can see, it is something different. Good
luck
