I started to lose my eyebrows in a diffuse type of loss (from the nose and out) several years ago. They gradually get thinner over month/ years, especially the right one.

Since I got pregnant in january this year the loss started to increase in tempo - my right brow is almost gone by now (half way due to conceiving), 60% of the hair in the brows are gone. I also just recently saw a little "gap" in my eyelashes too.

Checked thyroid + all other possible diseases that affects hair growth - etc and its all good. My B12 was low, but they started to give me B12-injections a month ago, lets see if this changes anything. Also I have pregnancy related diabetes. My doctors cant find anything else wrong with me, several dermatologists ment this is NOT Alopecia because the hairless is diffuse (not "patches" or "spots" and have been gradually .going over years). I wonder of it still can be Alopecia?

  1. Have anyone in here lost eyebrows in a diffuse manner over years - but have full hair on the head (no hair loss on head)?
  2. Does anyone in here have any idea of what this can be??
  3. If anyone lost only brows - did you loose the hair on the head after, or did you keep your scalp hair - but lost brows completely?
  4. Can it be due to stress (high adrenaline/ cortisol levels) over many years? I have been pretty stressed over many years.

Hi inge,

My hairloss started when I was around fourteen (I'm almost 29 now) just in one of my eyelashes. It stayed this way for a long time. When I was about 25 I lost the hair in one of my brows too, but then both regrew. More recently I have lost all of my hair (only within the last two months)

My brows fell out in a weird pattern, I wouldn't say there were patches as such. At one point I had two very full eyebrows, then I lost parts of one, then it regrew, then I lost more then eventually I lost both - and I was diagnosed with alopecia.

Its really hard to say what it could be, and what caused it. Especially since many Dermatologists seem puzzled by it too. But hair thinning and loss in your eyebrows can be caused by so many things from nutrient deficiency to skin complaints to ageing, to hormone imbalance.

Thanks for your thought reply.

When you lost your brows, did they fall out fast (like within a week or two) or diffuse/ gradually over many years before they were all gone (and before they regrew again)?

So now you have your brows back, but then lost your hair?

It was very gradually over a period of five/six years and it was diffuse, but they did also fully regrow for a good period before they fell out totally. I started getting my eyebrows tattooed around two years ago, and found a lady who is wonderfully talented. She's worked with my different stages of hairloss and made my eyebrows (or lack of) look great.

I've totally lost all of my hair now and I have been diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis, I only started to lose the hair on my head in March this year and it very rapidly progressed.

I lost my all my hear on my scalp 13 years ago at 20 y/o. Several years later I started to lose my eyebrows too. But very slowly. But I have no idea why.
