all I'm new here & have found alot of useful information since joining!
I'm a 23 year old female and since the beginning of April I have experienced diffuse hair thinning which has become increasingly worse over the last few months, I've seen 3 GPS and had bloods with just folic acid showing slightly low, each gp has said it's stress related and temporary but will not refer me to a derm so I can put my mind at rest! My problem isn't necessarily the thinning of my hair which is around half as thick but more so the fact I can see my scalp? It's so white and I never seen my scalp usually with my hair down just a few months ago but can now so it's scared me a bit, when my hair sheds I'm loosing alot of thinner and shorter hair behind my ears and the back of my head by my neck, it's also really itchy, i have also been shedding from my brows and eyelashes!I'm so confused and I just want to know for sure if this is a temporary problem! Has anyone else experienced anything similar or maybe have any advice? Thanks Hannah x

Hello Hannah, I'm sorry you are going through this.  I was diagnosed with Lichen Planopillaris 14 months ago. I've lost a lot of density but thankfully I started with a lot of hair. I noticed that I was losing a lot of hair and I had terrible itching and burning. My dermatologist did a scalp biopsy which came back showing that I had LPP and female pattern hair loss :(  I have been taking plaquenil 200 mg 2X daily for over a year. My derm also added minocycline 3 months ago, but I noticed more hair loss and thinning, so I decided to stop the mino and remain on the plaquenil. While it hasn't stopped the hair loss, it did stop the burning and alleviated the itching. You need to see a dermatologist.  Early intervention is key.  Good luck! Keep us posted.  xoxo Yoly

Hey! Thankyou for taking the time to reply!
Aw I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but I'm glad you've got things stabilised! I'm completely clueless as I've searched everything and not quite sure where my symptoms fit most! My gp is adimant it's just telegon effluvium yet I'm losing more every week that goes by!My scalp wasn't noticable a month or two ago and it is now! I get alot of itching it drives me mad and usually find where I itch I then shed from! Such a nightmare trying to come to terms with something your not sure about! Xxxx
You're welcome Hannah! I know the desperation you must be going through. I was told in the beginning that I had telegon effluvium as well and three months later the symptoms persist and they did a biopsy which confirmed the LPP. You should definitely seek the opinion of a dermatologist as they specialize in skin and hair. Let them know it's been going on for a while and tell them all your symptoms. You could also have dermatitis and that can cause itching and hair loss but with a medicated shampoo, the symptoms will clear up. Wishing you the best. Keep me posted! Xxx
Thankyou for replying guys, it's getting worse every week with no signs of slowing, I've booked to see a private derm in the hope of some awnsers but isn't until the 25th of July! I'd love to think it's telegon effluvium but the shedding has caused me to be able to see my scap in a matter of 2 months so I'm doubting it slightly! It is such a stressful task waking up every morning not knowing what to expect! The worst part is not actually knowing what is going on xxx

Also would anyone be able to tell me what these little hairs are? At first I thought breakage but now there's alot more of them and I've been so gentle with my hair recently I can't see how it could be breakage? X
