Hi everyone. I have been completely bald with Alopecia Universalis for almost 3 years. I have always read that the research indicates that if you have not had hair regrowth after a year of AU, your hair will never return. I had tried the wig route, hats and scarves, and FINALLY came to accept myself as a confident bald person who can use my condition as a way to inspire others. After reaching this mindset and swearing off all forms of head covers (except when it's cold, which isn't often here in FL), I start having a few hairs grow in the back of my head. Prior to this, I had some eyebrows grow, but no eyelashes. Well, over the past couple of weeks, the hair growth on the back of my head is noticeable. It is my hope that it either all comes in, or falls back out. The main point I wanted to make is that hair regrowth IS possible, even after years of baldness. I am curious to see what happens over this next year. Remain hopeful! And as a friend of mine has convinced to believe, "Hair is only an accessory"!

Hi Tracey,

I have been bald for many years although every once in a while will have a few eyebrow hairs stand out.  Did you change anything in your life before the hair growth??

No, I did not change anything. The eyebrows came in, but I did not expect any hair regrowth on my scalp because it had been so long. It literally began growing out of the blue!

Hi Tracey, I have also had universalis, for over a year, went from  3 years of AA to universalis.  I just noticed last weekend that i had some hair growing under one of my arms, and today noticed a few on my leg.  They are coming in very long, very strange, and of course who would want to shave them off after having none at all, i guess no shorts for me for a while LOL. I am not getting too excited, sounds so funny that i would be excited over under arm hair and leg hair, when all I really want is eyelashes, eyebrows and hair on my head, but I will  take what I am given.  I am not sure if this means it is coming back, anybody had any experience, with patchy hair coming back? can I hope that it is is reversing?  any answers would be helpfull.  Thank you

I've had AU for almost 23 years and random regrowth is expected at times. For example, patches of thin black hair will grow out on my legs, arms, head, and face. But, with this crazy disease, it's never an indication that I am on the road for total regrowth. It is nice to have some hair come in every now and then however. Reminds me that I am still capable of growing some!
