I want to start by making it clear that I am not advocating this as a treatment, just more of an inquiry to see if anyone else experienced this. Like always, consult with a physician before trying anything new!

My physician put me on the HCG diet and as a result, I have lost alot of weight (appx 40 lb). For all who are unaware, the HCG diet is a hormone diet with a low caloric intake. I will mention that being on the diet jump started a healthy way of life and I eat only healthy foods. Since then, I have noticed the regrowth of hair on my head which is the first time in over 10 years. The hair is in the beginning stages, although alot of it does have color, some is still non pigmented.

My question is whether or not the weightloss/general good health or hormones caused this miraculous regrowth. If anyone has had regrowth based on either of these factors, I would love to hear your story.

I will repeat myself when I say, I am not advocating this diet to anyone for the purpose of regrowth, just simply reaching out to others who may have encountered the same thing.

Thank you all for everything y'all do! You are not your hair!!!

Congrats on your weightloss and new healthy lifestyle.:)

It is difficult to say what causes remission to happen(if we knew we would all be doing it).  My daughter has had remission 6 times in the last 11 years (for no particular reason).  Her hair just spontaneously grows....but then does fall out again.

Possibly your healthier lifestyle may have jump started something but in reality nobody would and could be sure of what caused it...just like we don't know what really makes alopecia happen at all.

Congrats again.

I think that eating only healthy foods is probably not dangerous unless you're a diabetic who can't have fruit or if you have food allergies but that's only my opinion.

In time past, filling up on healthy foods kept me from feeling deprived and actually reduced my stress load.

A diet that includes all the necessary vitamins and elements will be effective for the health and hair regrowth. yep, we all know that it's easier to eat junk food - it also saves a lot of time. that's why personally i also consume special fluids and pills that provide with the required amounts of microelements I need. Regarding hair regrowth, there is an article that explains why sunflower lecithin good for you and how to get as more benefits as possible

Your body is just adjusting. Keep doing what your doing and add in the B12 as mentioned above, you will find that your hair will come back stronger than ever! Just eat healthy foods as above mentioned. You food should contain all colours. Eat fresh vegetables especially leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, nuts, beans, berries etc. Some amazing natural foods like Avocado, black berry, coconut oil, olive oil and herbs like Amla(Indian gooseberry), Ritha and Sikakai are very good for hair. These amazing herbs and foods not only stop hair fall but also help in growing hair thicker, healthier and stronger.

happy wheels

I had a similar incident when my AA first began. I went on the AIP ( autoimmune protocol) diet in hopes I could quickly reverse the effects of Alopecia. However, I didn't stay on it long enough to see any drastic results. That type of diet as well as any other special diet is very hard to follow. Myself, being a lover of spinach, cabbage, kale, turnip greens, etc didn't mind the vegetables. It was hard to follow because there are so many " Do not eats" and being on the diet made me feel hungry more often. I felt like I wasn't getting enough fats or protein. The vegetables are great but a lot of them do not have any sustenance.  Plus living without dessert ( brownies, cake, etc) isn't living lol So I asked myself is my hair really that important that I have to deprive myself of enjoyable things in life? I personally have found that no matter what type of diet I have really affects my AA. I still have regrowth coming in and have made a lot of progress since it first began.   I say keep on It if you can though.  Best wishes
