Hi Aimee

As a curiousity, might I enquire what your supplemental daily intake of iron is ?

It seems the recommended dietary allowance for a female (19-50 years) is 18mg, and 8mg for a male.

you know...... you might be on to something there with the iron.. i am severly anemic.. always have been. my dr forced me to take iron this past june. so maybe just maybe that i what has it comeing back... yay!!  well i wont get too happy till i see some of it on my head lol.. but yay at least i see some hairs.  i even have hair on my chin (i always shave it off) im leaving it now lol.

I too have au and I now have some very blond short eyelashes. They are not long enough for mascara though. I also got steriod injections in my eyebrows about a month ago so I have some dark hair there. I used to be pretty hairy so it is weird to only see some thin blond hairs but like you said I will take what I can get!

Hi Cstarr, could you please share some experience about your steriod injection? My 10 year old daughter was lucky to meet Dr. Shapiro in Vancouver last month, Dr. Shapriro suggested the steriod injections all over her scalp (80 shots) and eysbrowns (10 for each sides), once a month starting this Sep30. Dr. Shapiro is very famous and he's very condifent with his treatment. I'm quite nervous, I don't know if it hurts a lot, and more importantly if steriod injection is safe for such a young kid like my daughter. Thanks!!!

I probably got about 4 injections per eyebrow. It is painfull but to me worth it as it goes away shortly. I will say that hair has only grown in right around the area injected so I have patches. I discussed taking oral steriods but my doctor feels that the injections are safer. My only side effect is small indentions which are not really noticeable. I am not willing to undergo injections all over my head though, it seems like too much to me. I would suggest start with eyebrows if your daughter can handle the injections or they offer some anesthetic then I would do my head too. The injections only work if you keep them up. You could probably judge her tolerance by any shots she has recieved, it hurts less than a shot or blood draw and is much quicker but of course 80 shots in your scalp is a lot. I do think it would work though.

Thanks so much Cstarr. I have to consider carefully about this, hope we'll make the right decision. Best wishes to you!

I had Alopecia Universalis for about about 2 years. During this past year it has turned back into Alopecia Areata, my eyelashes and my eyebrows have completely grown back!! Now I am getting more and more patches on my head growing in as well.
