After many years of gluten sensitivity (it gave me asthmatic symptoms: coughing non-stop, allergic to all perfumes, cleaning products, etc.), I finally got off of WHEAT. Has anyone else noticed the correlation of their hairloss to gluten sensitivity? A woman who has a newsletter on growing your hair back (and long & thick) encourages people to get rid of all gluten in their diets.

I haven't had gluten for about 8 years and have found no regrowth.

You are right Aimee. I have wheat occasionally & every time I do, I start coughing up phlegm, etc. I'm glad that I don't have Celiac disease, with the digestive/stomach upset issues. Mine just affects my respiratory system. Speaking of regrowth, after just ONE MONTH on Xeljanz I now have spiky blonde & dark hairs on my scalp and saw my first eyelash since 2011- yesterday! I also am starting to regrow my eyebrows! I was totally AU for 6 years, so this very exciting! My doctor's took pictures of me this week and said that I was their first case using Xeljanz. They may want me to present my case at an Alopecia Conference.

That is great! Be careful, though. That drug has dangerous side effects, as I'm sure you are aware...

Yes, it CAN HAVE dangerous side effects, but many of us on it have not experienced any of them. There are possible side effects to everything, including aspirin. Even the inhalers (albuterol) I used to take came with a lot of warnings. That is why my dermatologists are carefully monitoring me and my blood work every 3 months. Actually, I feel GREAT on it! I'm sleeping better and have less anxiety. And now that my hair is growing back after praying about it for 6 years I feel even more positive and happy. Plus, I stopped hiding my AU this spring & threw my wigs into the garbage & feel FREE. Now everyone can share in the miracle and joy of my hair regrowth! Thanks for your concern though.

Hi… I'm new here and not sure if the extent of my hair loss qualifies as alopecia or not, but it's terrifying nonetheless.

I just wanted to comment here because I noticed someone say they were really happy about a medication helping their hair grow back.  Hope is a wonderful thing, but if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

The reason my hair, brows, lashes, and even some of my body hair are all falling out is BECAUSE OF a medication… a medication that was supposed to be safe.

Anytime anything has such a profound effect on your body, it is bound to have profound side effects, too.

Also, when I was ON the meds, there didn't seem to be any problems.  But as soon as the meds stopped, my body had apparently become "addicted" in a way the docs said wasn't "supposed" to happen, and that is now why I am so damaged with permanent side effects and hair loss.

Just my two cents for people to be careful of meds.  I wouldn't want to see anybody pay a higher price down the road.

When a drug shuts down your immune system, things can happen like infections, cancer.

By the way, our complete immune system is not shut down. Certain parts are suppressed.
I'm not having any negative side effects, and many other Xeljanz users (read ADML's discussion of over 1200 replies) haven't had any either. ADML has been on Xeljanz for over a year and has even upped his doseage, without any negative consequences. I have read ALL the replies. You should check them out. But of course everyone's health is different. I'm a very healthy 60 year old, without any other health issues, so was a good candidate.
Thank you so much.

Aimee, I am with you. My feelings are that the many possible side effects including cancer, immune system problems, perforations in the stomach and intestines, serious bacterial, viral and fungal infections, and a multitude of other scary things are not worth getting back my hair. Actually, with our T-cells working overtime to "protect" us, maybe we are less likely to get cancer than normal people -- ? I haven't researched this, but it seems logical. And from what I have read, when you stop taking this drug of course your hair falls out again. So you could be on it for decades -- and the longer, the scarier it becomes.

Be happy they are working on it. Tylonal has tons of effect and warnings. I still take that lol! It is no different then something saying you can get dizzy. If you get dizzy get off of it. They do not have the nice wigs for guys that they have for girls. This is a miracle for us guys that have no eyebrows....

Thanks Tyler. We all have a choice. Every time we drive our cars, we are at risk compared to flying, but it's not stopping us from doing either one, lol! For years folks with our disease had no choice, now we do.
