So I've recently had regrowth and now my hair has grown all over and it about 3-5 inches long.

I want to do something with it before it falls out again so I was thinking of getting braids.

Micro braids or box braids only in the centre of my head like a mohawk and id get my sides shaved.

I'm set on this idea as I'm fine with my hair falling out again, I just want to experience some sort of hairstyle with what I've got as I haven't for the past 9 years....

The braids wouldn't be pulled too tight but tight enough so that the braids wont slip out, Do you think this is a bad idea?

I'm just wondering about peoples opinions on braids?

also I have alopecia areata, i still have small patches at the back of my head on my neck hairline and the top of my head is kinda thin.

I don't think braiding or not braiding hair will effect your alopecia if it is in remission. Your hair may not fall out again, sometimes it stays for people. I understand that you have to keep your guard up for the possibility.
