I feel like I'm the only one ... I've had AU for 9 years. I just can't afford permanent make-up. I draw on my brows every day - I have a good hand and don't generally have an issue with the sketching. I would love beautiful tattooed brows but as I said I can't afford the price tag. Nor have I actually met anyone in real life who does a job I feel is worth the price.

Are there others out there who don't have eyebrow tattoos and don't plan to get them done?

I don't have eyebrows or tattoos. I haven't been able to justify spending the money. I would rather spend the money on a nice getaway! I'm selfish like that...HAHA!! ;o)
To shape your eyebrows you can buy and Anastasia Eyebrow Kit from places like Sephoria.com . Look for a good eyebrow shape to frame your face, not just the eyebrow shape you think you like. Depending on your skin type, it might be better to use a face primer to set your eyebrow make up so it doesn't smear or run easily (from the oils of your skin). I great way to find the perfect person to tattoo your eyebrows is to go to Yelp.com :) It is an online rating/review website on everything. You will be able to find the best person in your area just by typing your zip code. YOU MUST DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Most people do not specialize in permanent make up so it's your job to know what you want. I've heard people pay upwards to $25000.00 for just their eyebrows. I only paid $300.00 for mines and I LOVE it!!! The eyebrows will turn blue if it is done by a machine and the ink is not quality. Make sure to get yours done by hand, the results will be far more better. Good Luck to all you fellow Alopecian's out there and everywhere.
I dont have eyebrows & I never got eyebrow tattoos even though I can afford it. Its just not my style choice. I prefer drawing them or wearing fake eyebrows.
Oh, good! :0) So, I"m not "the only one" without eyebrow tattoos. I've got my drawing routine down pat - even receiving compliments from make-up artists . But, when I have an "off day" with the brows (e.g. I am distracted while drawing and the lines are not symmetrical), I wonder if I"m nuts to just use pencils. Feeling reassured now - thanks!
I don't want anyone else drawing anything on my face that I can't wash off. I just don't want it. When I had a new diagnosis I thought it was my only option. I have since learned a lot.

The risks of unintentional side effects from sub-dermal inks are real. There is no systematic regulation nor licensing nor reporting of adverse health effects in the US. Buyer beware. In places like New York state, your manicurist and pedicurist might have an unannounced drop in visit by the state health department to check on sanitation and sterilization procedures. Their state licenses are at stake. We have a high level of consumer health, safety and protection. Can we say the same thing about the shops that do tattoo ? Ask your state department of Health how much oversight and enforcement there is. File a request with the Better Business Bureau or consumer protection department. Nearly all can be done online nowadays.

I have perfected a variety of techniques with powder brows and sealer. Fast, natural looking, far more expressive and "hair like" in appearance and surface texture than tattoo brows. Once you know your best shape ( talk to a lot of make up artists if you're not sure) you know the key to looking your best. Put on a lot of brow shapes and wear them around ( free hand, stencils, rub off temporary ones, done by artist) and learn a lot about what is best for your face.

Look at it personally to suit your lifestlye, but above all be informed. Some are upset going to bed with no brows or getting up seeing no brows. For others like myself, the transformation is a fun part of the day. And my brows do not wear off at night anyway if I add a bit more sealer at bedtime. They stay on after being face down on a massage table.
For those who sweat a lot, swim a lot or have other reasons, there can be situations that make perm tattoos more appealing...but know the risks and trade-offs.

What I see often are tattoo brows that are the wrong color and wrong shape/density and placement for the person's face. Some can be enhanced nicely with pencil or powder so that's an advantage. Too often on a hairless forehead, the inked ones are anemic and fail to frame the face well enough. A lot of ink looks really fake. Making the brow the size that fits your face all in ink could look really bad which is likely why so many are undersized and anemic.

Impulsiveness by clients matched by the "visa or mastercard?" priority of many in the brow business means consumer SLOW DOWN. I meet alopecians all the time who take 10 times longer to research a new car or new refrigerator than they do to FULLY investigate the qualifications, experience and results of the person injecting ink in their skin.

PS There are many many people with inked brows who love them. What we also see, unfortunately, are too many people thinking that's the only option and rushing without thinking it through completely. I'm sure I will get flak for my comments from the artists out there who do a fine job. Overall, I still feel that the people who do ink brows have not been providing adequate disclosure to the clients inquiring about it while at the same time the clients have not been asking enough of the right questions.

As for powder brows the most frequent comment is one of shock:" Those are not real???"
I do not have eyebrows or tattoos. I also draw them on by hand. Don't feel alone, I know many people that also do not want to get them tattooed on for various reasons. I don't think I would ever get them, only because I like being able to change how they look depending on how I wear my wig or if I go without it. I also feel like the penciled eyebrows look a little more natural, but that's just me.
Thanks Thea and Alex! :)
I've had AT for 4 years and i don't plan to get my eyebrows tattooed on, even though they're completely gone.. I'm sure they look great - I just don't like the thought of them being so permanent.. Plus, it costs enough as it is to buy a good quality wig! I draw mine on everyday and people rarely notice.
I also don't draw my eyebrows on. I have never worn makeup and wouldn't have the first clue as to how to even begin doing this! HAHA!! I'm 30 years old...I've gone ALMOST my whole life without makeup (aside from proms and my wedding) and I've also gone my whole AU life without makeup, eyebrows, or a wig. At this point, I feel like I would look pretty funny with eyebrows. To myself and to everybody else.
Most of the time I don't have brows, rarely (like now) I have pieces of brows. Almost 30 years ago I used to draw them on but got tired of faking it. No plans for tattoos. I think I look good how I am; those who care about me agree &/or have adjusted; & those who don't know me get to see one more way women can look.
My name is Mark. I am a 53 year old single man, who got alopecia when I was about in the 4th grade. Around the 7th grade it all started to fall out eyebrows etc. I wore a wig for about 30 years before I took it off about 6 years ago. I have never had eyebrow tattoos. I have thought about getting tattoos over the years. And I have recently considered it again. It has been cost prohibitive in the past and considering that I am currently unemployed I can't handle the expense now. Also, I know what a great difference it would make in my appearance, a permanent appearance, unless I just let it fade away, which I hear can happen if one doesn't go for re-applications every so often. I don't know why I feel or fear that I will draw strange looks from people. Because I have gotten strange looks from people every day of my life the way I look now, without any facial hair. I just have to convince myself to do it. When will that be, after almost 40 years who knows.
