So I have had alopecia since I was about 5 years old. I'm still in "cover up" mode and it is starting to get annoying. I'm constantly wearing hats when I can and I am trying to cover up my spots. It is getting to a point where trying to cover up my spots isn't working out. I'm always stressing out if my hair moved and I was exposed. Lately I have been tossing around the idea of shaving my head. I knew if I buzzed my hair off you would be able to see the affected areas. Is there a way to shave it so close that you couldn't tell that I had alopecia? Will there always be some stubble so you could still see my spots? I guess I don't know too much about shaving my head. What have been people's reactions to shaving your head in public and in the workplace? What are some of your experiences? Thanks.

Hi, I shave my head. I was in your same spot at one point. I was always worried my bald spot would show. I cut my hair short, then shorter, then buzz cut it and then started shaving. I've been shaving it ever since. If you buzzed it, yes the affected area would show. However, if you buzzed it really short, it might not show as much. If you shave it with a razor, you shouldn't be able to tell that you have alopecia. Depending on how fast your hair grows, you might have to shave it every day. I shave mine every other day, but I wear a wig when I go out so it doesn't need to be smooth all the time. If you are going to shave it, I would suggest you try the "HeadBlade". You can get it at Walgreens. I love it. It was designed for men who shave their heads. There is also a shave gel, but I use Men's sensitive shave gel instead. For some reason the men's is better than the women's sensitive gel. You will probably have to use a regular razor for around your ears or at the bottom of your neck. The first time you shave, it might not turn out very smooth, and it might take a while to shave it. However, the more you shave it, the easier and smoother it gets. I think a bald head is very common for a man, so you should have no problems in the workplace/public. I believe you can still look good & professional with a shaved head. That is just my opinion. For women, it is a little different but that doesn't matter with your topic. Hope that helps!
