It's Hair Loss Support At Its Best™
Hi
Fairly new with A.U. and like most am uncomfortable being in public except for work. I have let this condition affect my once very social life. I was wondering if anyone has come across any new treatments or insights to share with me. I am appreciative of any replies or help even dealing with the psychological effects this condition effects us.
Thank you,
R Hardin

Permalink Reply by Carl on February 5, 2012 at 7:31am Hi Rick, and welcome. I started with my beard disappearing around 5 months ago. shortly after I began losing the hair on my head. As soon as It was obvious I just shaved my head. It was a shocker to begin with and I wasnt very comfortable socialy, but Id rather be bald than patchy. I got myself a few hats, fedora, trilby, baseball caps,a few bandanas and sort of created a new look for myself. Its only been around 6 weeks since I shaved my head, but people I know seem to have forgotten about it already. And people I dont know didnt know me with hair anyway and assume its my choice. Thats how I dealt with it, along with the belief that Im the same person I always was. Hair or no hair.
As for treatments, I havnt had much luck. My doctor gave me some steroid cream and shampoo, but I havnt noticed any improvement. I believe my alopecia is stress related and Im doing my best to change things in my life that have caused the stress. But as you can see by looking through the website, everybody has a different story to tell as far as symptoms go.
I hope you find some answers and feel free to drop me a line.
Regards. Carl.
