Hey, I've had AA since April 2014, I had my first appointment with the derm after waiting almost 8 weeks for an appointment. Well what can I say he was a bit of an arse, but I can cope with that if he can solve my problem :). He put me on prednisolone 20mg for 7 days and then to reduce by 5mg per week and also dermovate to apply to my scalp. Now this the crazy part I have been feeling weird and agitated, kinda like turning green (HULK) and smashing through walls. I've been sweating more but nights are terribly difficult. I tried to sleep last night and as I closed my eyes it felt as if my body was on the floor and my head on the bed. Kind of out of body experience. Has anybody experienced this whilst taking this medicine. I have bought a bottle of vodka to help my try and get to sleep, not gonna drink it all :) but just so that I can relax, web says no interaction but was wondering if anyone has tried this, your help is appreciated, thanks

I've taken prednisone for chronic bronchitis and it makes you feel crazy.  I couldn't wait to get off of it.  You can't sleep or concentrate, you're agitated, and sometimes paranoid.  I hope you do not continue to take it.  The side effects are not worth it.  Besides, you know the shaved head look is totally in and very sexy, but I am sure it is a hard decision to go there.  My grandson was born with alopecia, grew some hair, still has a little left, but I pray constantly that he will keep what he has along with his beautiful eyelashes and eyebrows.  He's only 2 and will probably face a life with no hair.  I just can't imagine how awful it will be when he goes to school.  Back to you, I hope you get some hair growth soon, but continuing to take prednisone is a hard way to go.

I agree with the others, really no point in taking the prednisone. It does heavily alter your mood. I was doing one high dose once a month which helped with sleeping because I'd only have insomnia the first and second night. My hair did grow back and I think it stalled the fall out of my brows and lashes but any growth fell out immediately when I stopped.

For the most part Prednisone doesn't work. You might get some of your hair back and you might not. It could possibly stall any further loss but when stopped you're back to ground zero. Taking systemic prednisone has lots of risks and side effects if taken for extended periods of time. You're better off with the injections to the localized spots but then again a  temporary fix if anything.
