I have been shaving with a regular razor, but I am always nicking myself and getting razor burn. Not to mention, it only stays completly smooth(my whole head) for only a few hours. If you can, how long does it last and what do use for it? Do you have to get it professionally done or can you do it at home?

Hi Kayden,

To get a head shave that lasts longer and does not "burn" you need a high quality razor. Be sure not to use a disposable.
Any triple blade (like a Mach III) works well. Use plenty of shaving gel. Warm your scalp with hot towel or hot water in shower first.

Sometimes I go to a barber shop for fun and have them give me "the works". They heat their gel, give you a strong scalp massage and it feels great!

I dont thik I would go for the head waxing and I dont like shaving my head with a razor either.
My choice is using an electric shaver. I find it is quick and easy with no nicks or burns!

Any head waxers out there???
I jumped in the hot tub and put my head under for as long as I could hold my breath probably 10X. Then went into the house and used the Mach III w/a small amount of shaving cream and it still feels a little like sand paper in the parts where there is still hair. (2 days ago first time shaved) Will I ever get close enough to not look spotty (as someone in another post stated I look like planet earth). Plus my head was extremely sensitive to the razor..normal?
My personal experience is that shave gel gets a closer shave than shave foam. If the skin pores are open the shave is closer. Spotty is hard to combat if you have dark areas on light skin. Sensitivity can be due to shaving in a direction opposite the hair growing direction or a razor that's new or close to new. The sharper(newer) the blades the less pressure = less sensitivity.

I had the World Map too. What helped alot was 1 A suntan on my never seen sun before scalp and 2 the rest of my hair to fall out. Oh Brother.....
Thea was of course correct on the razor's need of being extremely sharp. I thought I was good with the blade I was using as it was darn near brand new, but a new one made all the difference. Stood in the shower and just felt around for stuble. In 24 hours (this morning) though the stuble came back in areas and feels like sandpaper that amazed me so quickly good areas made growth known. Doc told me to keep using Rogain (generic)though numerous sites stated your body has ALL say in this matter.
Curious to see if anyone does wax. Personally, I use a good razor and gel, then a nice cream afterwards to quiet any razor burn. Been doing it for a few years so the skin on my head is fairly tough. Hope you get an answer...
Just say no to waxing!
That said, before I had alopecia I used to get my eyebrows waxed at least 4 times a year....Wildabeast I tell you
