I had 2 patches of hair loss (one on my beard and one on the back of head) before I was put on Ramipril to lower my blood pressure.

I know that all blood pressure tablets can have the possible side effect of causing hairloss, but I noticed that after a few weeks of being on Ramipril that I seemed to be losing more hair. An internet search then showed that a lot of people had experienced hair loss after using Ramipril.

I then noticed that a new bald patch had appeared on the top of my head but I don't know if it would have appeared anyway, with or without the blood pressure tablets.

I spoke to my GP and he put me on Amlopodine and I haven't found any horror stories about it online, and I don't feel as if I have been losing as much hair but the bald patch on the top of my head has definitely gotten bigger. This patch has grown in size much quicker than the 2 other patches.

I don't know whether to come off of the Amlopodine for a while as I can't bear the thought of anything possibly making the hair loss worse, or stay on it and just have to deal with any issues that it may cause. I would obviously monitor my BP regularly if I did come off of it.

Any thoughts, anyone?

I was never on blood pressure med but they put me on that Metformin, diabetic med for 6 months and it seemed like it made my hair fall out more.
So I asked dr if I could stop taking it beens it was'nt doing me any good.
So she said yes and I stopped taking it.
But I have been off of it for a while but I feel growth on my head but it is taking so long to see much change.
So not to sure it meds cause ur body to do strange things.
Good luck.
Update: I discussed the BP meds with my GP this morning and he suggested that I try Bendroflumethiazide. He checked the possible side effects on his computer system and in a book that he had and said that there were no mentions of hair loss/alopecia against the side effects. I really hope that this is the case as I would be struggling to take medication which could make the hair loss worse.

I've searched on here for anyone else having experienve with bendroflumethiazide but haven't found anything.
