Hi everyone. My little boy got his first bald spot in December 2014 just before he turned 3. It was a small smooth spot and from googling I could tell right away that's what it was. Took him to his pediatrician who confirmed the diagnosis and made no big deal about it. She said in most cases it grows back and never happens again but set us up to see a dermatologist anyways. She also prescribed a very mild steroid cream. I spoke to a naturopath who suggested giving him a multi vitamin and antioxidants as well as an immune booster and rubbing castor oil into his head and sure enough within a few weeks we saw regrowth. I was alternating between both treatments so not sure if it was one or the other or neither which stimulated the growth. By February the spot was completely filled in so when we finally saw the derm in May she could not see and confirm the diagnosis but said based on what I told her it probably was. She also said the steroid cream my ped prescribed was not strong enough to be effective for alopecia so that his hair probably grew back on his own and prescribed me a stronger one in case another spot came in. Fast forward to July and we got another very small spot. Of course my heart dropped because I truly thought it was gonna be a one time thing (and hoped) so I started back on the immune booster and Castor oil and again we got regrowth quickly within 5 weeks the small spot is almost completely filled in. Looks like my sons grows in pretty fast so we are thankful and also thankful this is just a cosmetic issue. My naturopath friend suggested a gluten allergy test to see if that could be a trigger. Does anyone have any experience with that? Also when using the steroid or any treatment do u stop applying once u see regrowth I can't remember what the derm said. Thanks in advance everyone!
